  1. Added Steve’s latest YouTube video to this page. Our thoughts found on his channel found below.

“Welcome back. Uma had a nice run in the 1990s. Things have slowed since then. I have seen 19 of these movies and 25 overall. Favorites include #11 Mad Dog and Glory…a very underrated movie. #6 The Adventure of Baron Manchausen….saw in theaters…like it more now. #5 Gattaca….interesting sci-fi movie. #2 Dangerous Liaisons and of course #1 Pulp Fiction….hard to believe that one is over 25 years old. Voted up and shared.”

  2. i saw 14 including top 6. 10s and favorites: pulp fiction, kill bill 1 and 2 both. 9 not favorite dangerous liaisons . hidden gems: mad dog and glory 8, the truth about cats and dogs 8. Uma thurman with her action heroine’s wry ,understated comedic delivery in kill bill reminds me of a female bruce willis in die hard.

it is hard to accept that if pulp fiction were a car it would now be a classic, over 25 years old.

i must confess i enjoyed “be cool” an 8. in its defense it did have a 39% review rating, ouch. i think it suffered from high expectations generated by the first in the series “get shorty”. i see it is catching on world wide with $135m adj B.O. . i also enjoyed the silly “my super ex girlfriend” 8, GATTACCA 8, and meryl streep’s prime 8.

the 3 coulda, shoulda, wished for better from talented casts :avengers 6, batman 4, the producers 4 are not recommended.

    1. Hey bob cox….tally count 25 for me, 16 for Steve and 14 for you. Glad to see Pulp Fiction gets a 10 from you. Even more glad than Mad Dog and Glory gets a hidden gem from you…I agree with you 100%. I thought My Super-Ex Girlfriend was a fun movie….with nice roles for Uma and Luke Wilson. I like you put your 3 “coulda, shoulda wished for better” movies together. Good stuff as always.

  3. That’s pretty quick work Bruce, I’m impressed. Unless you already had this page standing by and had forgotten about it.

I could mention my next video subject which is not in your index page but will you be able to produce a page in time and save Bob the trouble of moving our comments over? Are you there Bruce? [waves arms] Oh why do I bother?

    😉

I’ve seen… jeez I’ve forgotten what the count was hang on… I’ve seen 16 of the 44 films on the chart, less than I thought. Favorites include Kill Bill 1 & 2, Pulp Fiction, Batman & Robin (guilty pleasure), Percy Jackson and the Lightning Bolts, Paycheck and Baron Munchausen.

Surprised to see Pulp Fiction was a bigger hit than Clooney’s Batman at the adjusted worldwide box office, wasn’t expecting that. The Avengers managed to pass $100m in adjusted grosses. The original 60s TV series was a big favorite of mine, and dads too. Shame the movie version was such a turkey.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….as the database has grown….I would say we generally 50 to 75% of all actors/actresses’ movies in the database already….that makes it pretty quick to generate a new page for a video or is an untimely passing occurs. Generally….when I pop in a new name….about 20 to 30 movies pop up. Shockingly…the other day…I found out tha Elsha Cook Jr. was not in the database…..but it turns out 70 of his movies were.

Tally count. 25 for me, 16 for you and 14 for bob cox. I have seen all of your favorites. Not a huge fan of the Kill Bill movies. I did see Kill Bill 1, Pulp Fiction and Baron McDonalds in theaters. As for Batam and Robin…after a strong opening weekend….word of mouth destroyed (and for good reason) that movie….while Pulp Fiction had great word of mouth and in the end it took down Batman. I have not seen The Avengers…it is one of the few Sean Connery movies that I have not seen….one day.

As for your next video….sure….either share or provide a clue. Hope you enjoyed your time off.

        mike

        1. OOOPs I have seen the older january ones. Those are really awesome, but I can[t find the 1992 or 1983 ones are the ones I would like to peruse.
          Thx

          Mike

          1. Hey Mike….I will check when Iget back home…running errands as we prepare to go New Jersey to fetch our granddaughter for a lengthy summer visit.

  4. HI STEVE: As I’ve indicated it’s good to have you back chatting to me again – that Work Horse guy seems to argue with almost everything I say. He’s now taken to sending away for DVD’s to prove me wrong.

I guess he doesn’t have the same faith in the information that I give him as he does in the utterances and opinions of Hirsch. If Cogerson had ever been privileged enough to get into exchanges with The Master it most likely would have been a case of “Yes sir. No Sir. Three bags full sir!”

I think that you’re right in that WH’s to me excessive love of Pulp Fiction is linked to Willis. Indeed it is possible that bubbling under in The Work Horse’s subconscious is a further loose connection that nevertheless pleases him: in 1972 Sir Maurice appeared in a movie called simply “Pulp” co-starring Joe Yule Junior.

You are right about Batman and Robin being a poor Batman movie but it made a fortune at the box office thanks maybe to Arnie in his heyday as Victor Freeze. WH quotes an adjusted worldwide gross of nearly half a billion for it – but an awfully low review rating of 26%.

Thanks for enquiring after my health. Actually I had a bit of a scare two Sundays ago when I woke up in the night shivering and shaking as if I was taking the flu. That’s one of the main coronavirus symptoms and I am in the age groups upon whom the virus is supposed to prey most; but it transpired that I had suffered a slight dose of sunstroke on one of my long walks and the next day the symptoms were gone and I was back to normal health.

Continue to take care of yourself please. The lockdown is easing considerably here at least for now; but I am still playing it very much as safe as I can.

    1. Good work moving these posts here Bob.

So Bruce does occasionally glance at our comments, that’s nice of him. 🙂

      1. HI STEVE

YOU 7.20 am today. Good stuff – 3 thumbs up recognition.
“I could mention my next video subject which is not in your index page but will you be able to produce a page in time and save Bob the trouble of moving our comments over? Are you there Bruce? [waves arms] Oh why do I bother?”

I think that when there’s silence from him you know that WH is out building fences and/or sending away for numerous DVDs to show the gaps in the knowledge of the rest of us/sitting somewhere deep in though about eg Leach or Micklewhite/reading again and again THAT 1983 book.

Speaking for myself when WH does answer my comments I always recall the scene in the 1950s TV series Bilko with Phil Silkvers. Bilko’s Col Hall has always been on just the fringes of the top brass but when a 4 star general visitis the camp Bilko works his magic so that the General is so impressed with the unit that he says to Col Hall “Can we play golf together John?”

For the remainder of the day the highly flattered Col Hall walks about in an almost stupor saying “He called me JOHN. He called me JOHN!”

        1. Hey Bob and Steve….you guys are so funny. I have responded to almost 20,000 comments…and you all act like I never comment….WoC had me put a timer on the comment part of the website…I spend about 8 to 12 hours a week doing return comments…..that is almost two full school days. I spend more time doing comments than I do creating new content.

          1. “WoC had me put a timer on the comment part of the website!” Cogerson 11:26 am today.

            STEVE

So there you have it: the comments of you and me are being subjected to the dictates of an egg timer! No wonder university professors and other academics such as lecturers are often referred to as “eggheads”!

          2. Hey Bob….just pointing out, that even though you guys get on me some times about not commenting…I am spending lots of commenting back. WoC has pointed out that my self imposed rule of trying to comment back on ever comment will have to stop at some point. I just can’t keep up…maybe when I retire for the second time…lol.

          3. Hey Bruce, if I could chime in here, it’s true that you do a great job in responding to many comments and it’s appreciated. It’s probably because you respond to the large majority of comments that questions (or jokes) are raised in the few cases when you don’t 🙂 From my part, I would agree with WoC and advise that your dedication to responding to comments not take too much time away from your work, family and other life pleasures. I would not feel at all slighted if you responded less to my comments, except perhaps in cases when I may ask questions or make specific suggestions.

          4. Hey PhilHoF17…..thanks for sharing your thoughts on the “comment” situation. I have always said it is a great problem to have…..during the summer I have more time….during the school year things get pretty hectic. And then there is WoC…..she likes when I pay attention to her…..lol. Good feedback.

    2. Hey Bob…glad you only had a false alarm a couple of Sundays ago. Pulp Fiction is now a classic….I do not feel I am alone in the Pulp Fiction fan club. Pulp with Caine was an interesting movie…but not one I loved.
