  1. 1/The Val Kilmer films that I have most enjoyed are Willow/The Doors/Tombstone/Thunderheart/Heat/Batman Forever/At First Sight. The movie I thought he was most wasted in was The Island of Dr Moreau [as was Brando though Burt Lancaster made a version that wasn’t up to much either]

2/On top of a prolific big screen career Val has been in 13 television productions; participated in a Spiderman video game; and made 2 music videos.

3/IMDB credits Val with 6 acting awards and 12 nominations though it must be said that none of them were major ones. His current net worth is said to be $25 million.

4/Currently in the pipeling for Val are

    (1) 4 movies at post-production stage including Top Gun Maverick which is scheduled for release this coming Xmas coronavirus permitting. Val plays “Iceman” in it – whoever THAT is and please don’t tell me as ignorance can indeed be bliss at times!

    (2) 1 movie at pre production stage: “Riptide” a biker/drugs drama with Val top-billed

    (3) also just announced: the role of Mark Twain in “Mark Twain and Mary Baker Eddy” She [1821-1910] was the founder of Christian Science and Val will direct – and write if he hasn’t already done so.

My posters/stills listings will be posted tonight or tomorrow.

    1. Hey Bob….good breakdown on Steve’s video and Val’s career. Glad to see we agree on the merits of Tombstone….easily my favorite Kilmer movie and Kilmer performance. Good stuff.

  2. 1 HI BRUCE I liked Val Kilmer in Willow, Heat and most especially as Jim Morrison in The Doors and I felt he made a passable Batman and indeed I thought him facially more like the Batman/Bruce Wayne of the comics than any of the other big screen Batman players. At one time I was convinced – and hoped – that big things were ahead for him.

2 However a close study of his grosses aligned to his personal contribution to the movies in your comprehensive table above will demonstrate that his box office career never really developed in keeping with the promise he once showed and his overall Cogerson average gross of $48 million is not even half of your prestigious 100 million marker for individual flicks.

3 He has had a fair number of acting award nominations and several wins but although the ones concerned do demonstrate a fine talent, which as you have pointed out has emerged in a great variety of roles, as far as I can tell none were for the “big 2” – the Oscars and Golden Globes. Heck he didn’t even get the Breen-Robison Cowboy of the Century award for his brilliant Doc!

4 Aged 58 and apparently having suffered health problems since at least 2005 it is highly unlikely that Val will ever join the ranks of say Cruise and Willis as a box office star but at least we can wish him well in efforts to stabilise his health.

5 The big box office stars are naturally of great importance but “No man is an island” and the superstars in turn rely a lot on sound back-up/supporting performers like Val and once again with this new page your site has demonstrated its practice of giving honour where honour is due – well 99.9% of the time and I think you know what I mean by that!

POSTSCRIPT Regarding our discussion about William Castle, my Joan and ticking clocks I am reminded also of Hitch and Psycho. Back in 1960 movie houses had continuous performances right thru the day without break and people would often go into a film before the end of one performance to ensure they had seats for the next one. When Psycho was showing Hitch had arranged for a ticking clock in foyers warning audiences that beyond a certain cut-off time they would spoil their enjoyment of the film’s surprise ending if they did not wait until the movie ended

    1. Hey Bob. Enjoyable comment on Val Kilmer. I have to admit that I agree with all aspects for your thinking…..especially with 1 through 5. I do think he should have gotten something for Tombstone.

But…like all good discussions…..if one were to add Killmer to the list of nominees….somebody would have to come off the list. Here are the 5 that got Best Supporting Actor Oscar Nominations that year: Tommy Lee Jones in Fugitive (he won), Leonardo DiCaprio in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Ralph Fiennes in Schlinder’s List, John Malkovich in In The Line of Fire, Pete Postlethwait in In The Name of the Father…..in my mind…Leo and Malkovich would be in trouble if I had the power to change historical facts…lol.

      Good stuff on Hitch. 🙂

      1. HI BRUCE

Whilst it’s not essential that we agree it is good when we do. Tell W o C it’s heartening she’s on the mend.

  3. Hello Bruce,

I like him, because he is a very good actor and i think he believe in his parts, but he is an actor of 80 and 90 and to day he is in the shadow, i dont like to write has been because in the movie history there is so many come back like in politic….
Now i always read DAN because, i dont know what is the oracle of bacon, i try to find on the net but there is not so much explanation and i am very interrested by all this lists
I suppose it is a something like a chart with actors and actress who are in or out.
And it is something which come back every year but by who??
I am very interrested to understand that
Oh by the way thank you fo the Carrol baker box office but i thin she desserves an UMR page, because she has some classical films in her acting but i know that she left Hollywood in 1966, I think after the film »Sylvia » for the italian cinema but when she came back in Hollywood, it was really difficult for her
A very good day for you
    See you
    Pierre

    1. Hey Pierre.
      1. I agree Kilmer’s career in the 1980s and 1990s was pretty impressive.
      2. As for Dan’s Oracle of Bacon lists….it revolves around the Kevin Bacon game.
      3. https://oracleofbacon.org/ is the link of that website.
      4. As for Carrol Baker…you are right…she should and will get her own page soon.
Thanks as always for the comment and the visit.

    1. Hey Dan. Massive massive lists. So Kilmer keeps moving up…even though his box office power has dwindled. All those low budget, straight to DVD movies are really helping the cause.

I agree it is cool that he was worked with Top 4….and 6 of the Top 8. Sir Caine can’t work with everybody….lol. 32 Oscar winners is a pretty good total. Like I just said in my Bellamy comment….his total will be increasing in a few weeks when Gary Oldman becomes an Oscar winner.

Looks like Christian Slater is his most popular co-star….with 4 movies together. I went ahead and edited your comment….as you had one list twice.

Great feedback as always. You are the man.

    1. Hey Jason…gotta admit….when I saw Prince of Egypt first…..my first thought was…”What…that can not be correct”…….but statistically it is indeed the best Kilmer movie….but not thinking if you asked a 100 Kilmer fans what their favorite Kilmer movie was….The Prince of Egypt would get many votes. In my mind the top 3 would be Tombstone, Heat and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
