    1. Hey bob cox….looks like you feel the same way I do…..that 1993 was a very good year for movies. Your 64 movies watched is right there with Steve. Mad Dog and Glory is a hidden gem in my book too….David Caruso is very good in a supporting role….so glad to see somebody else enjoyed it as well. Wrestling Ernest Hemingway was the first movie that I noticed Sandra Bullock….good but depressing movie. Good comment as always.

  2. HI BRUCE Thanks for the feedback. Your 1993 review includes of course Meg Ryan in her heyday hit of Sleepless in Seattle and that sadly reminds me that Meg’s You’ve Got Mail also with Hanks in 1998 was the last decent hit she ever had.

2001’s Kate and Leopold drew modest audiences but íts worldwide rentals apparently came nowhere near matching its huge budget and otherwise Meg’s box office in the past 21 years has been dire. No way back for her now I’m afraid.

However thinking of You’ve Got Mail brings on some happy reflections as well because (1) I watched it at home on video the night before I made my one and only trip to the States to stay with my daughter (2) 1998 was also the year that Roger made his tennis professional debut!

So you can see how your annual reviews of years long gone like the 1993 one can have a domino roller coaster effect on my emotions – at times bringing sad and exhilarating reflections flooding through to me in equal measure. So far I’ve managed to blank out the year I first recall you mentioning Hirsch, so that’s one SAD memory repressed!

Anyway good stuff and take care.

    1. Hey Bob. Interesting points about Meg Ryan’s post 1988 career. The curse of 39 seems to have reached her for sure. She turned 39 in 2000. Thanks for sharing your 1993 memories…..sounds like a return trip to the States are overdue. So Roger has been playing pro tennis since Spielberg unleashed his dinosaurs on the world…that is good trivia. Good stuff.

  3. Congratulations on bridging the gap between 1929 and 1994! These yearly reviews contain the best and most comprehensive information on the web of the box office success of movies released each year. 1993 seems a particularly good year, with Shindler’s List and Groundhog Day being two of my favorite films of all times. Of the 28 films on the list I’ve seen, other favorites include In the Name of the Father, Philadelphia, The Fugitive, Remains of the Day, Tombstone, and Nightmare Before Christmas. Great stuff!

    1. Thanks PhilHoF17….I appreciate the very kind words about these yearly reviews. Just did the research for 1995 and 2009……figured I would work both sides of the years…and meet in the middle….only 13 more years to research 15 years to write pages on….then it will be 1929 to 2019.
I agree with you about 1993….and very good year for movies. The Top 20 is pretty darn good…especially with movies like Tombstone and Nightmare Before Christmas barely getting into the Top 20. I am right there with you on Groundhog Day…..as that is one of my all-time favorites as well. Good to hear from you. Good stuff.
