Elvis Presley (1935-1977) the singer was the “King of Rock and Roll”.  The “King” has sold over 2.5 billion in worldwide records.  Following in the footsteps of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Presley went from singing to acting in movies.  Elvis Presley’s first number one song, Heartbreak Hotel, was released in January 1956.  By the end of 1957 he had appeared in three movies (Love Me Tender, Loving You, and Jailhouse Rock) and they were all box office hits.  After Presley finished filming King Creole he was drafted.  He would return to movies with G.I. Blues in 1960.  For the rest of the 1960s he averaged nearly three movies a year.

When looking at his IMDb page you find some pretty interesting Elvis Presley credits.  Presley has 31 acting credits.  His music has been featured in 397 movies and television shows.  And he appeared as himself in 23 projects…including many documentaries.  This page will rank 31 Elvis Presley movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings….I did include two of his most famous documentaries in the rankings.

  • Sort Elvis Presley movies by actual domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Elvis Presley movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost

  1. Not only have I seen them all I own them all, he proudly proclaimed. I was an Elvis nut back in the 70’s not so much now in me old age. King Creole and Jailhouse Rock are my two favorites, and from his 60’s output I have a soft spot for Viva Las Vegas and Blue Hawaii. Harmless, relaxing entertainment, colourful locations, pretty girls and great songs.
From his concert movies, ‘Thats The Way It Is’ tops them all. I must have watched that a hundred times on video during the 80’s when I taped it off the BBC.
Nice work Bruce. “Elvis has left the building”

    1. Hey Steve….so not only did you buy all of his movies…but you watched them too…..you my friend are one serious Elvis fan. Some of the movies near the end of his movie career are pretty bad…for example Clambake….he literally only made that movie for the million dollar payday….but then again….it was a million dollars back in the 1960s….that would be about 7.11 million dollars in today money. Current tally count Steve 33, Flora 24 and me 8. Thanks for the return visit.

  2. Hi, Bruce.

I thought I would look at another music star on your list of stars to do.

Although I’m a fan of Elvis singing ballads (I have a cd of them) and certain faster-paced songs, I am not the fan of him that Steve is. I’m not big on car races, either. Any of his films with car races I have seen I have seen but once. So I’m not going to beat Steve by any means.

Jailhouse Rock is the Elvis film I’ve seen most recently for the first time-sometime last year. At Number 1, it is the highest ranked film of his I’ve seen.

The lowest ranked film I have seen is #29, The Trouble with Girls.

The highest ranking film I have yet to see is loving You at number 2 with Lizabeth Scott who died earlier this year – a favourite of mine since I love film noir. That film is at the top of my to-see list of Elvis.

The number of films of Elvis I have seen by your ranking is:

I have seen 4 of his top 5
I have seen 9 of his top 10
I have seen 13 of his top 15
I have seen 16 of his top 20
I have seen 20 of his top 25
    I have seen 24 overall.

My favourite films of Elvis is based a combination of the number of songs I enjoy in a film and the amount of time there isn’t a car race. Also, I have a love of documentaries, so your inclusion of them at Steve’s suggestion bumbs up my total and is a factor in my preferences. There a number of his films I have seen only once.

My top 5 Elvis films are:

    Love Me Tender
    Blue Hawaii
    Elvis on Tour
    Viva Las Vegas
    Jailhouse Rock

    Cheers,

    Flora Breen Robison

    1. Hey Flora…first of all you and Steve destroyed me in this tally count. Although he did not mention it I think it is safe to say his tally count is 33 or 100%…..with you at 24 movies…my tally used to be 0 but with Steve’s encourage I watched 8 Elvis movies these last few years.

80% of his Top 25 is impressive to me….though Steve might think you are slacking…lol. I think Steve was shocked that I did not include the documentaries. Of your Top 5 I have seen Blue Hawaii, Jailhouse Rock and Viva Las Vegas. I enjoyed Viva Las Vegas the most with Blue Hawaii coming in a close second. As for Jailhouse Rock….great dance sequences but the acting is pretty weak. The last Elvis movie I watched was Clambake…Elvis looked bored….and a lot of the movie was filmed in Florida….yet else never left California….so we see lots of people standing in for Elvis in long shots.

You are knocking out these classic stars at a pretty good rate…..I need to get busy and get some more published. Thanks again for checking out all of these pages.
