  1. Hello everybody,
Hope your all fine, a page on a actress who is for me Is in the 1970 years but she was never a big star, not in France, but she had a great succes with the film with Gene Wilder
Silver Streak but after that Pfttt…..and for me one of her bad choice was Gable and Lombard..
It is a long time, in the main time to day no productions, no festivals, no theaters opens, no box office…
I hope everything will be better and come back very Soon…..
    See you
    Pierre

    1. Hey Pierre. Good to hear from you. I agree with you and how she is associated with the 1970s…5 of her Top 7 movies are from the 1970s. Starting Over and Unmarried Woman were pretty successful here in the States….but from 1982 to her passing things were not too stellar. I like you hope things get back to normal soon. Good stuff as always.

      P.S. Can you e-mail me at cogersonmoviescore@gmail.com?

  2. No mention of her daughter Lily Rabe, one of the revolving cast of American Horror Story anthologies.

Jill Clayburgh is one of those actresses like Sissy Spacek or Jessica Lange whose pictures I avoided like the plague back in my early days of filmgoing. I caught up with their classics (snicker) in later years on TV.

Jill was never on the Oracle of Bacon lists. These are the actors on the 2020 list she has appeared with.

I went to Gable and Lombard back then, probably the first Jill flic I saw,

    1. Hey Dan. As always thanks for putting these lists together. I am not too aware of Lily Rabe. I will have to do some research on her, if nothing else to connect the dots between Jill and Lily. Looking at the first list, there are lots of “doubles” but I think Burt Reynolds is the most famous of that group. Back to back 11 Oscar winning co-stars. I really like the comparison of Clayburgh and Sissy Spacey. Good stuff.

  3. Strangely for once in profiling Jill The Work Horse has ignored his idol’s normally definitive opinions so it is now up to another of Joel’s disciples with privy to The Master’s inner sanctum to step up to the plate:

“Her talent for drama and comedy is one of the keys to her success but her physical appearance in even more significant. Clayburgh is pretty enough to be an attractive housewife, to invite female identification, and yet not pretty enough to be a threat. ———-Clayburgh was not only adequate but brilliant in An Unmarried Woman.”

Says it all doesn’t it? – sadly though the rest of us are probably incapable of even NOTICING or THINKING the things that HE articulates so well.

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for sharing the wise words of Joel. I wrote this page first, but then quickly jumped to the Taye Diggs page. I agree with his breakdown too. So all three of us in accord…that does not happen much.

      1. HI BIG BOB

As you can see Joel was very kind to Jill. Indeed whilst he didn’t like Jane Russell for example and he wasn’t impressed with the acting of Elvis [few critics were] the only thespian that I can recall Hirsch getting the boot into in a really big way on a PERSONAL level was poor Brando.

However The Work Horse being a teacher seems determined to make us read a lot more of Joel’s stuff for “homework” so we may come across some other poor performer in the future whom Joel has left bloodied and broken. Marlon was big enough to survive the onslaught but there are not too many thespians who coulld survive The Curse of The Master!

        Keep safe.

        1. Hey Bob….glad you are doing your Hirschhorn homework….when teaching….it makes it all seem worthwhile when you see your students understanding the lessons….Joel and I are very happy with your progress…lol.

  4. Celebrity Net Worth site quotes Jill’s net worth at the time of her 2010 death as $4 million which is equivalent to $4.6 million today. IMDB credits herewith 2 acting awards and 17 nominations.

My favourite Clayburgh roles are those in Whispers in the Dark and Starting Over. I first came across her in a 1974 episode of television’s The Rockford Files called The Big Rip-off; and my last experience of her was a voice contribution to a 1998 episode to TV’s Frasier called The Perfect Guy.

That is one of my very favourite Frasier episodes and it has become more-relevant a tag ever since I came across Bruce Cogerson and his mentor Joel Hirschhorn.

The trivia above is very solid and entertaining. Jill’s haul of awards/noms and her net worth are not very significant by today’s yardsticks; but she does enjoy the equivalent of the British monarchy’s Royal Seal of Approval by being awarded a positive entry on page 84 of The Master’s 1983 Bible – see Part 2

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for checking out our latest page. Good information on her awards, net worth, and television work. Glad she made contributions to two of your favorite shows. I have not seen Whispers in the Dark, but I really enjoyed her work in Starting Over. Always makes me smile when you are positively mentioning Joel. I do believe that is two pages in a row you have agreed on. Good stuff.

  5. Mr. Cogerson, MOS teacher in Technology,

Sounds great, you should be very proud.

    Excellent job.
