  1. Philip has often reminded me to an extent [albeit a less harsh version] of John Marley who was the victim in Godpop 1’s horse’s head horror scene.

    I have seen Phil in about a dozen movies and in only one of them is he the lead: 1996’s Hard 8 in which he gets billed above the then-new screen darling Gwyneth Paltrow fresh from Brad Pitt/Morg Freeman’s Seven.

    In that one Phil gives for my money a tour-de-force of a performance as if determined to take full-advantage of the opportunity of the rare main role in a film.

    On his sad death Philip left behind a net worth of $1.5 million according to the Celebrity Net Worth site; and he kept working until almost the end, his last role being in 6 of the 10 episodes of the TV drama mystery thriller Messiah which aired on 1 Jan 2020 when he was 88 years of age.

    Accordingly whilst as a supporting actor he was never among the mega earners of the film biz he thankfully was able to live out his final years in reasonable financial comfort. Certainly he deserves in my opinion his page on the Cogerson site for his run of fine performances over the years.

    POST SCRIPT: All great minds certainly DO think alike: I had typed the above post BEFORE noticing that Bruce too has tended to mix-up Philip with John Marley.

    I still cannot agree wiith the Work Horse though about Royal Dano and Gregory Peck so I suppose we will have to accept that the stronger of our two minds got it right there! However I am a modest chap and will not labour the point!

    Flora nearly blew a fuse at the suggestion that Royal [indeed probably ANYBODY] could ever look as good as her beloved Greg so no prizes for guessing which side she is on in the dispute between WH and me on the subject!

    1. Hey Bob….good to see that we agree on the resemblance of Philip Baker Hall and John Marley. Good information on Baker’s net worth. In the United States he was remembered for his one-time appearance as an overzealous library worker on an episode of Seinfeld. I think Flora has forgiven more for the Royal Dano/Gregory Peck question….though in fairness the final vote on that survey was pretty close….like 51 to 49 percent. Good stuff. RIP Mr. Baker.

  2. Hey Dan. Thanks as always for the trivia lists on the late Philip Baker Hall. I seem to get him mixed up with John Marley….even though there is a good age difference between them. His Oracle Ranking is pretty high, a lot higher than I would have guessed. Looks like William H. Macy is most frequent Oracle co-star. I would say 32 Oscar winning co-stars is on the low end. Good tribute comment. RIP.
