  1. As Jamie Lee’s page already disappeared from the top menu with only 9 comments to its name, I thought I’ll add my two cents. Actually, I have not seen many of her films, but I was introduced to her when I managed to sneak in the cinema to see Halloween when I was still just shy of my 14th birthday (and therefore still considered too impressionable to be allowed to sit through the horror and suspense). No doubt, it is the Halloween franchise and other films of similar genre that has brought Jamie Lee the most recognition. However, my favorite of her films is easily A Fish Called Wanda (sorry Bob), which I still think was one of the best comedies from the 80s…and Jamie Lee was delightful in her role. Had she been given better roles afterwards, perhaps JLC would have shown herself to be a comedy queen as well as a horror one.

    1. Hey PhilHoF17….yep this page is already 5 pages old…..the stay in the header is usually short…so JLC’s time in the spot light is short. I see I missed Dan’s comment…I will need to fix that error.

I thought she was awesome in A Fish Called Wanda….sexy and fun. I agree she might have done even better with allowed more challenging roles. She returns to another Halloween movie this year….maybe one day…..they will merge Stallone’s Rocky with Jamie’s Michael
Meyers movies …as they have both been playing those roles for 5 decades. Good stuff.

  2. 1990, I live in the Bronx near Parkchester. The American Quad (now gone) has Blue Steel with Hamie. I travel all the way to the upper west Bronx to the Riverdale twin (also gone) to see Blue Steel. I do this because I get a sneak preview with it, Pretty Woman.

Jamie is sort of an enigma. She’s no longer on the top 1000 Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Cener of the Hollywood Universe list. She was not on in 2000 (the first count) but she was #744 on one of the late 70’s lists. For someone not on she has a decent list of people still on, some quite young that she has appeared in a film with. The people on the 2016 list who she appeared with:

    VANESSA REDGRAVE Mother’s Boys (1994)

What is Vanessa Redgrave doing in garbage like Mother’s Day.

Speaking of Mother’s Day, back in the dying days of the deuce (42nd Street) there were 2 old 42nd street dives still open for a few more months till they were all gone. They used to get all new pictures on Thursday nights (common now) but the other theaters opened their films on Friday. So I saw Mother’s Boys double billed with The Naked Gun 33 1/3 both opening Friday.

When those 2 theaters closed a 6 plex opened for 1 1/2 years that let you move from cinema to cinema for free so you could see a few films for frr. Then the big boys came the AMC 25 (moving an old theater down the block) and a 13 plex across the street.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Sorry I missed this comment.
      2. Sounds like a serious travel plan to see a movie….I have not seen Blue Steel…but it is making people’s list of quality movies.
      3. You are right her standing is strange indeed.
      4. Great lists as always.
      5. Sorry those movie watching memories are now only a memory as the big theaters to take over.
Thanks as always for sharing this information.

  3. Jamie was labeled a scream queen for a few years after Halloween, ironic in that her actual screaming wasn’t that impressive, especially compared to Fay Wray and her incessant ear-piercing screaming in King Kong.

I’ve seen 11 of the 37 films listed. Favorites include – Halloween, The Fog, Trading Places, True Lies, Blue Steel and A Fish Called Wanda.

I may have seen Terror Train and Prom Night back in my video renting days but I can’t say for sure. I’m still waiting for True Lies to be released on blu-ray. It’s one of the very few big modern movies never to have been released on HD disc in the UK and US. The Abyss is another waiting for blu-ray, also directed by James Cameron.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve
      1. Thanks for checking out our JLC page.
      2. Interesting about her scream….then again nobody can out Wray….Fay Wray.
      3. So you have seen 11 of her movies….I am at….24 movies watched.
      4. Trading Places, True Lies and A Fish Call Wanda would also be on my favorite list.
      5. I am right there with you on Terror Train and Prom Night….so I did not include them in my tally either.
      6. I did not realize that Cameron had not released either True Lies or The Abyss on HD……I wonder what he is waiting for?
      Good stuff as always.

  4. Bruce:
1 As you say Jamie Lee was for a time regarded as the Horror Queen but the films that I enjoyed her most in were True Lies, Blue Steel and Perfect though your Reviews don’t rate the latter 2 very highly. I never liked A Fish Called Wanda.

2 She never became the star that certainly her father was but given that her mom and dad were once regarded as one of Hollywood’s most successful couples Jamie Lee did well to carve out a successful career of her own.

3 Her films have not done well recently and your chart above suggests her last big hit was 10 years ago in 2008. However this October she yet again reprises her Laurie Strode role in a further Halloween outing so fingers crossed. It was nice to see her mother appearing alongside her in the 1998 Halloween H 20 subtitled 20 Years Later- do the producers plan to release a new Halloween shocker every 20 years?

    1. Hey Bob
      1. Thanks for checking out our latest page.
      2. I liked True Lies as well……Perfect was destroyed by critics back in the day….pretty much derailed Travolta’s career until Pulp Fiction came…..but I do not remember it actually being a bad movie at all.
      3. Surprised you did not like A Fish Called Wanda…..a movie in which the lead character is named Archie Leach….which is a tribute to Cary Grant.
      4. I agree….she is not nearly as big a star as her father….but 40 years later and she is still a “known” actress.
      5. You are right….the last few years have not been stellar Curtis years….maybe as you commented…Halloween 936 will put her back in the limelight.
      Good feedback as always.

      1. HI BRUCE

1 I think that you told me before that you found Perfect OK. Critics often expect to see great technical expertise in a movie like some of the “dry goods” they rave over such as Tokyo Story, Bicycle Thieves and the 7th Seal.

2 I am not arguing with their assessment of those films but I think there is also room for the likes of Perfect without everybody being down on such films which whilst not great I nevertheless regard at times as pieces of harmless, enjoyable fun.

        3. You are right though about Perfect being one of the flicks that harmed Travolta’s career for a while and although the 1989 Look Who’s Talking was a considerable success at the box office I personally thought it was an awful film. IMDB gives it just a 58% rating and even you could scrape up just a 56% for it despite Mr Moore giving us the voice of the to me highly irritating Mikey. 1990’s Look Who’s Talking Too was even worse. That is why some historians see 1994’s Pulp Fiction as Travolta’s true or at least complete renaissance and credit Tarantino with the sense to see that John badly needed a change of screen persona.

4 In fact the Russian media used Travolta’s temporary eclipse as political capital in an effort to demonstrate how “The West” cruelly exploited a young man when he was a commercial asset {Grease/Sat Night Fever] and then turned on him when he was no longer seen as a top money maker.

        1. Hey Bob……I really liked Look Who’s Talking when I saw it in the theater….but I acknowledge it has not aged well at all. Interesting viewpoint from the Russia media.
