  1. My comment on Steve’s Jamie Lee Curtis page…which has been added to this page.

JLC getting some Lensman love on Halloween…good timing. I have seen 8 of the first 10 movies..no favorites…but I used to think #21 was a great movie. another 8 when looking at movies 20 through 11. I liked #14 Road Games….a little known thriller. Top 10….seen 9…only missing the new Halloween movie. Love #3 Trading Places, #4 True Lies and #2 A Fish Called Wanda. #1 Halloween is a good movie…but not a horror fan at all. So that is a grand total of 25 seen or 83%…not too bad. Voted and shared (or at least I will..not at home right now).

    1. Hi Bruce, Halloween party with the kids tonight? 25 out of 30 is very good, my tally was a disappointing 13, Flora’s was even worse 3. I’d better get back to the classics quick. 😉 I’ve already watched Halloween (1978) with my nephew a week ago. I’m curious to see the new Halloween film but I can wait for home viewing. Thanks again for the comment, vote and share.

      1. We had a good time….it was bittersweet…as this was Sam’s last Halloween to go trick or treating…she will be too old next year….where does the time go. Hey….you guys are the masters of the classics….but I have watched a lot of modern films….though not nearly as many as Dan. I think the new Halloween will now die at the box….as it is now November as I type this comment…so it should be on home entertainment by Xmas.

  2. It seems that EVERYONE wants in on the Halloween act [“Stop feeding off me!” – Newman in Cool Hand Luke]. However as you are a true horror buff the Halloween festival to you is probably like Christmas was for Bing Anyway please see run of detailed exchanges between Bruce and me below. How would you register Mother Bates and Mike Myers respectively on a scareomoter?

Great posters in your Curtis video are for my money Virus, Perfect [one of my 3 fave Jamie Lee flicks], My Girl 2, Grandview USA [showcasing one of my own Top 30 all time fave actors Patrick Swayze] Amazing Grace and Charlton[ The cheek of her! How dare Jamie Lee get billed above my Greg?] , two absolute stunners for Prom Night, Mother’s Boys, Terror Train, Blue Steel [my fave Curtis movie alongside True Lies and Perfect] Spare Parts, My Girl, H2 , The Fog [par excellence!], A Fist called Wanda [though movie itself not my cup of tea] very suggestive one for Road Games and the 2nd one for Halloween 1978.

A most consistently high class run of stills in my opinion (1) the very young Curtis family [this one almost brought nostalgia-provoked tears to my eyes] (2) sexy Jamie in chair in Perfect (3) Jamie with her “meal ticket” in Halloween Resurrection (4) another raunchy one , this time Jamie behind the door in Prom Night(5) Jamie showing us another ‘side’ of her physique in Fierce Creatures (6) two of action heroine Jamie with gun in Blue Steel – Statham never looked like that for all his muscles! (7) Jamie with Michael Myers’ Van Helsing type nemesis in lobby card for Halloween 2 (8) a truly creepy stunner from The Fog (9) Halloween 2018 [lobby card? – I didn’t know they still did those.] (10) the versatile Jamie as a Hooker in Trading Places (11) Jamie with spy husband Arnie in True Lies “When he said I do, he didn’t say what he did.” –terrific poster tagline ] (12) Jamie maybe all but ready to utter Mae West’s famous line “Come up and see me some time when I’ve got nothing on!” in True Lines (13) Jamie and her perennial stalker in Halloween 78

You and WH agree on of 4 Jamie Lee’s Top 6. The other 2 that he goes for are Up from Poppy Hill and Veronica Mars, whereas you choose True Lies and Dominick and Eugene. I don’t know anything about those other 3 I’ve just mentioned but I support your ranking True Lies in the 6 – great movie and Arnie’s best in my view. Bruce has Wanda as no 1 and Halloween 78 as No 2. You agree with him about the same Top 2 but have them the other way round. As I have never fancied Wanda and this is Halloween I’ again calling it for you.

Your video is a truly riveting Halloween treat throughout and my scores average out at 98.5%. Go to top of Bruce’s class but don’t be afraid to let them see who you actually are. You deserve recognition for the work you produce! I’ve watched the Curtis video 3 times already

    1. STEVE

I see that in my Curtis post to you I’ve done a Bruce with his famous Raw Mind in Eden [instead of Wind] spelling. I’ve referred to A Fist called Wanda and True Lines instead of Fish and Lies respectively

Sorry about that. I like teasing WH about those tiny slips of his Next time I do so he’ll be able to quote at me John 8 of the King James Bible “He that is without sin among you let him cast the first stone.”!

    2. Hi Bob, thanks for the review, generous rating and comment, much appreciated. I’ve read your interesting horror posts with Bruce.

I originally had another Hollywood lady planned for this wednesday but I couldn’t pass up a chance to produce a Halloween video & feature a Hollywood starlet on October 31. Looking at the video only 8 of the 30 videos are in the horror genre. But that’s still more than most actresses manage. Her lowest rated, Virus, is sci-fi.

A fan of Perfect eh? I think I only watched that once on video tape a long time ago, I thought it was only worth watching for Jamie Lee’s aerobics.

Blue Steel was one of Jamie’s better films and director Kathryn Bigelow went on to make film history by winning an Oscar for directing The Hurt Locker 20 years later.

That still from Halloween 2018 I think was a publicity photo rather than a lobby card. I’ve seen one where Michael Myers is helping her do the knitting. I’ll see if I can find it and post a link later.

Two of Jamie Lee’s films scored 10 out of 10 from my sauces – A Fish Called Wanda and Halloween (1978). No 9s but there are four scoring 8 out of 10 including True Lies and Trading Places.

Halloween tops IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes charts, mine too. Bruce has A Fish Called Wanda at no.1 with Halloween 2nd.

Jamie on her father Tony Curtis – “I’m proud to be his daughter but he was not a father; he was not interested in being a father – and this is not a slam against him – he did what he had to do from a financial standpoint, which was honorable of him to do, but he wasn’t an involved father. Therefore, I look at him much more from the perspective of being a fan of him. I was more of a fan of his work, of his spirit, of his joie de vivre (joy of living)… My mother was never a diva, my father was bigger than life, who lived in Vegas! There was no bond, not at all. Except for the fact that I inherited genetically a part of him.”

        1. Hey Steve…very cool…..good to see the siblings spending some quality time together….lol Thanks for the share.

      1. HI STEVE

Thanks for your feedback to my Jamie Lee post including the explanations and the very revealing quote.

The quote made me feel very sad. You often wonder how the children of some of these big stars are actually able to turn out as reasonably well-balanced people in the way that Jamie Lee seems to have done.

Chaplin apparently used to humiliate his son Sydney in front of other people when Syd was an adult. In my opinion many stars who are successful as professionals are failures as human beings.

Thanks for sharing the Myers knitting link with us. Most interesting I once read an interview with Rock Hudson in which he – quite seriously – revealed that knitting was often his pastime when between scenes on the set set.

By the way when does your True Brit series start? I’m quite looking forward to it. Meanwhile hope you are having a good Halloween. Bruce always seems to get well into the swing of all these annual celebrations and festivals. He reminds me of a guy whom I worked with in the Civil Service who was addicted to such things.

He was always the one who would dress up as Santa and bring in the presents at office parties. Ironically his name was Brian White and his nickname was “Daddy White Christmas” because of his love of and participation in holiday celebrations etc.Take care.

        1. Bob, I should be starting a run of British actors this monday, it’ll make a change to look at some British posters, but American poster art (and movies) will feature too. Bruce might be scratching his head at some of the titles – Ice Cold in Alex, Tunes of Glory, The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw, The Magic Box, The Browning Version, The Importance of Being Earnest etc etc 🙂

I’m currently watching Dana Andrews, chatting with Niall MacGinnis about witches and demons, at the British Museum. Night of the Demon, one of my all time favorite horror films. I bought it recently in blu-ray high definition.

          1. HI STEVE “The British are coming! The British are coming!” proclaimed English producer David Puttnam, subsequently The Lord David Terence Baron Putnam, Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, as he brandished aloft the Oscar he had just won for Chariots of Fire as Best Picture at the 1982 Academy Awards.

Many Americans may not understand is that for an Oscar winning Brit the Academy Awards are often just a dress rehearsal for the REAL ceremony that takes place later at Buckingham Palace England on a date tba !

Thanks for your response. I’m already thinking about what I might say about some of the Brits likely to feature in your selection. Ice Cold in Alex [meaning the city of Alexandria of course] was one my father’s all-time favourite movie as he served in that area as an RAF gunner during the 2nd World War. Indeed the film ultimately nearly caused him to get divorced.

My mother invited some family members over for supper one night when it was showing on TV in the early 1960s. We had no recording devices in those days so that if he wanted to see Ice Cold again he had to watch it in the real time in which it was showing That he did by deserting the guests and secluding himself in an upstairs bedroom where there was a 2nd TV!.

The Night of the Demon is regarded by many movie historians [with whom I agree] as a classic Brit horror flick. It marks the last really good role in my view for Welsh Brit the lovely Peggy Cummins. Indeed she made just four more movies after that, all obscure Brit comedies. Anyway roll on Monday!

    3. Hey Bob and Steve (1)….added Steve’s You Tube video to the page (2) good review from Bob on Steve’s video and JLC’s career. (3) Glad to see we are seeing things the same with…with JLC’s top movies. Good stuff.

  3. HI BRUCE

You and I exchanged comprehensive posts about Jamie Leigh in Feb this year – how time flies – but since then (1) it’s almost Halloween again! (2) you have flagged up her page once more and (3) last weekend I saw Jamie Lee in a Columbo TV episode in a walk-on part as a waitress who serves Columbo coffee in a café.

It was called The Bye Bye Sky High Murder case and was released in Jamie Lee’s overall debut year of 1977 and was in fact only her third acting appearance, two other TV presentations having featured her earlier that year. I would never have bet that she would become the horror genre cult figure that she has. Shows you what I know [and of course that why we need guys like you and Joel!]

Related links to the Columbo appearance (1) Jamie’s mother Janet Leigh had appeared as a Columbo murderer in an episode of the series, called Forgotten Lady, two years earlier. Also guest-starring with Janet in that one was John Payne one of my fave cowboy/B movie actors of the 1950s (2) Peter Falk who plays Columbo co-starred with Jamie Lee’s father Tony in 1965’s The Great race. Just sit back and marvel Dan!

    1. Hey Bob
      1. Time flies for sure…and evidently it flies faster as you get older.
      2. I agree, it does not seem like 8 months since we did a Jamie Lee Curtis page.
      3. Good stuff on her Columbo appearance…that might be worth checking out.
      4. Lots of good connections…Dan would be very proud of you.
      5. I figure, with Halloween about to set some records this weekend, that we should get some Halloween pages completed and promoted….so that is why Jamie is getting some more “moments in the sun:.
Thanks for the visit and comment…off to dinner with the family.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for the feedback on my Jamie Lee post. Good ‘topical’ idea of yours to tie in the Halloween real life annual with the movie franchise and a ‘re-release’ of Jamie Lee’s page.

As a a matter of interest as of Sept last year the net worth of Jamie Lee and that of the estate of each of her late parents are said to be as follows Tony $60 million, Jamie Lee $35 million, Janet $20 million.

Much of Tony and Janet’s fortunes would no doubt have been generated years earlier than Jamie Lee’s and would of course have been worth far more in the past than they are now.

However adjusting for inflation would be irrelevant because their wealth is worth today only what is in the bank/their estates NOW – ie the figures I have quoted.

That’s always been the gripe of savers over here in times of high inflation – their money in the bank devalues over the years as interest doesn’t normally fully protect it.

PS Great news [for me at least] A list of mortals who are regarded as “superhumans” has just been published and included in the Top 5 are Federer and Serena Williams. Fictitious characters aren’t included so no mention of John McClane, The Duke or Harry Palmer!

        1. Hey Bob….glad to talk Jamie Lee this weekend. As a movie star this could be her final hurrah…..so I hope she enjoys it….if she waits another 20 years to make another Halloween movie she will be almost 80….that seems a little too old….but I am sure Stallone will still be making Rocky/Rambo movies, Arnold will still be making Terminator movies and Bruce will still be making Die Hard movies..so I guess Jamie can make Halloween movies in 2038.

Good information on the Curis family worth. Glad you found your “superhumans” list….and that Roger did so well in those rankings…..I enjoy Tom Brady made that list….he is an NFL football player. Good stuff….hope you have an awesome weekend.

          1. HI BRUCE I meant to say that I enjoyed your little illustrated montage of Jamie Lee’s Halloween contributions across the years. She was just a ‘kid’ when she made the first one. I wonder if her mother’s Psycho fame was what encouraged Jamie to pay a lot of attention to the horror genre when selecting roles.
            .
For me though Hitchcock’s 1960 ‘Mother Bates’ has remained more frightening down the years than Michael Myers and indeed I still regard her son Norman as the most creepy screen “madman” of all time.

Possibly the reason for that is that for example we’ve seen Myers many times over the decades whereas the ‘bodily Mother Bates’ was used sparingly by Hitchcock in his classic [I’ve never watched the remake]. Clever ole Hitch possibly realised that over-exposure might dilute the scariness of the Bates mother figure.

Thanks for the information about Tom Brady as I was aware of only Roger and Serena If you know of other names on the list I’d be grateful if you’d pass them on to me. I wonder if Audie had been alive today would he be included as a “superhuman” in view of his astonishing war record. By the way I’ve finished my 2nd reading of the Murphy book. Thanks again – it was a great buy.

CAUTION: Don’t write off Mike! It’s possibly we could see 10 years from now “Halloween 2028- Generations. The son of Michael Myers stalks the daughter of Laurie Strode” Roger’s been on the professional tennis tour during the release of everything in the franchise since 1998. I wonder if he’ll still be playing on the main tour in 1928!

  4. The Halloween movies are without a doubt my favorite horror movies. I have every single one of them on DVD and in my Cloud. The Jamie Lee Curtis are easily the best, so glad to see UMR has most of her Halloween movies rated so high. Still, I enjoy Resurrection even if your rankings trash that one. So, needless to say I was very glad to see you giving Halloween so much attention. I have my tickets for tonight in my hand. Hope my high expectations are merited, I commented here because I did not see a comment box on the Halloween pages. Are you still allowing comments?

  5. saw halloween in theaters last night. it was awesome. best halloween movie since the original. jlc rocks. john carpenter would be proud
