Jim Carrey Movies

Jim Carrey in 1998's The Truman Show
Jim Carrey in 1998’s The Truman Show

Want to know the best Jim Carrey movies?  How about the worst Jim Carrey movies?  Curious about Jim Carrey’s box office grosses or which Jim Carrey movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Jim Carrey movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which ones got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Last weekend was one of the few times that all of our children were home and at the dinner table.  Having a son stationed in Alaska makes these times few and far between.  Well the dinner conversation turned to this website and they were curious which actor or actress was going to be next.  When I told them I was not sure….but….it was time for a current performer…they started firing away suggestions.  Son #1 wanted a Elijah Wood page.  Son #2 wanted a Kevin Pollack page.  Daughter #1 wanted a Elizabeth Banks page.  Son #3 wanted a Seth Rogen page. Daughters #2 and #3 wanted a Minions page.  Finally my one and only daughter-in-law suggested Jim Carrey (1962-).   With the exception of daughter #1 who still insisted that a Banks page would be very very popular….the rest seemed shocked that I did not already have a Jim Carrey page.  So to get my children out of shock….here is a Jim Carrey page.

His IMDb page shows over 55 acting credits since 1980.  This page will rank Jim Carrey movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings.

3. Jim Carrey’s average adjusted domestic box office gross of $137.90 million per movie is the 9th best average of all the performers in our database.  No wonder Jim Carrey was the first actor to reach the 20 million dollar salary mark…..which is what he earned for 1994’s The Cable Guy.

Jim Carrey is the man as far as I am concerned! One birthday year my mom let me stay home from school and we went and saw ‘When Nature Calls’. I can probably quote the entire ‘Truman Show’ and loved the dark side of the character he played in ‘The Number 23’. I find Carrey to be a phenomenal actor and one that can take on any type of character brought to him. I knew that he does tend to be lime light shy and a bit on the “crazy side” in his personal life, but aren’t we all? He is just lucky enough to get paid for it!. This is proven with that $20 mill mark you mentioned him being the first in his field to achieve. GOOD ON YA JIM!! Being a little off your rocker is what makes a great actor as far as I’m concerned anyway. So now, my one and only Father in Law, I’m off to raid your shelves for Eternal Sunshine and commence my Jim Binge. ;~p

Hey Abby the Anonymous…..thanks for stopping by and commenting. Glad you enjoyed YOUR Jim Carrey Movie Page. That was cool of your mom to let you stay home and watch Carrey movies. As for The Number 23….you might be one of the few that liked that movie….I personally thought it was ok….but Carrey was good in a non comedic role in that one. Glad you finally got a chance o watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Thanks for the suggestion for this page.

Hey Abby the Anonymous…..I do not think you have much more to see. The only problem I see is that the DVD is in Virginia and you are in New Mexico….that might make it hard to watch. Hope your flight was a smooth one.

    Hi

I first remember Carey bursting onto the scene in 94 with Ace Ventura, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber and for the next 10 years he had a great run of box office hits. I particularly enjoyed Cable Guy, The Truman Show and Me, Myself and Irene. Eternal Sunshine is good but I must make a point of seeing it again. Like a lot of comedic actors, Oscars haven’t been very kind. He seems to have went off the boil a bit the last few years. I seen Mr Popper’s Penguins on a plane journey and to be fair it wasn’t bad, although hardly up there with his all time classics.
Interesting that you didn’t enjoy The Mask, goes to show one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Hey Chris. I agree he had a wonderful run from 1994 to 2004. His four $300 million plus box office grossesduring that timeframe is pretty impressive….that is Harrison Ford and Tom Hanks type numbers.
My little kids like Mr. Popper’s Penguins….they ask to watch that one on a regular basis….but that seems to be made for kids under 10….I wonder if they will still be making that request in 5 more years.
As for The Mask…..not sure why I never really liked that one….maybe it is time to revisit that one. As it stands now…..The Mask and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls are two times I felt like leaving the movie theater before the movie was over….both times my kids saved the day….as I remember my oldest was laughing and laughing and having a great time watching those movies….the same thing happened during Adam Sandler’s Little Nicky. I always remind of which movies he used to love as a kid. Thanks for stopping by.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in 18th place? You are nuts! That is easily his best and most memorable performance of his career.

Hey DidLloydWriteThis…..nope Lloyd did not help….but Harry did. The way the rankings are set up you can rank them however you want….if you want to rank them by box office….you will see How The Grinch Stole Christmas is number one….if you want to rank them by critic reviews and audience voting…then Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has the top spot….if you want to rank them by Oscar love…you would see Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events at the time with 4 nominations and 1 win. My ranking system takes into account all three groups of stats…..Eternal Sunshine got destroyed in the box office gross category…as it is Jim Carrey’s 22nd biggest box office hit….or his 7 worst box office hit….which ever way you want to look at it. I do agree with you that Carrey is outstanding in Eternal Sunshine. Thanks for stopping by.

I could picture your kids pitching out suggestions. I would have to agree that Carrey was the best choice. Wood, Pollack, the Minions and Seth Rogen make good supporting characters. As for Carrey I agree 100% with Truman Show being at the top. That is not only my favourite Carrey movie but an all time favourite as well. I knew about his Eastwood movies but not being in Peggy Sue Got Married. Interesting stuff and put together very well.

Hey Timlin33….yep they were all excited about Jim Carrey….yet none of them have stopped by and commenting….all that work….and they ignore my page….lol. Truman Show is a movie that I can watch over and over. Carrey has a small role in Peggy Sue Got Married….but thirty years later it is hard not to notice Carrey when he shows up in the movie. Thanks for the nice compliment on my newest page.

Lots of facts and stats on funnyman Jim Carrey. I think the first time I saw him on film was Once Bitten, a video rental. And I have Earth Girls Are Easy on DVD, for some reason I liked that one.
I’ve seen 21 of the 29 films you’ve listed. I’m not a huge fan of modern comedy but I seem to have seen most of Carrey’s films. I expected The Truman Show to top the moviescore chart but I am surprised to see the equally acclaimed Eternal Sunshine all the way down on the list. It does top the critics list. I’m not a Grinch fan but I did enjoy The Mask. I still haven’t seen Dumb and Dumber To. Looking at the interesting facts box, I can’t imagine him in Legend, Pirates or Chaplin but he would have been fine in the other roles. So he’s shy in real life, didn’t know that. Nice work as always Bruce, Sandler next? 🙂

Hey Steve. I actually enjoy Earth Girls Are Easy as well. Carrey, Damon Wayans and Jeff Goldblum make good aliens. I do not think I am a Carrey fan…..but I have seen 28 of the 29 movies listed….with A Christmas Carol being the one I have not seen. It is actually on my DVD shelf but I have never gotten around to watch it.

Eternal Sunshine falls in the same category as Shawshank Redemption, Citizen Kane and many others…..movies that are beloved…but when they were in theaters they got ignored. Eternal is Carrey’s 22nd biggest box office hit….even Mr. Popper’s Penguins outgrossed it by 20 million. But as you noticed Eternal Sunshine has the best reviews of all the Carrey movies.

Grinch has its moments….I did not like The Mask at all….Dumb and Dumber To is ok….but nowhere near as good as the first one. As always I appreciate your visit and your comment.
