  1. I have seen 15 of Molly’s films; the highest ranked I have not seen is Wishin’ and Hopin’.

Molly was in Malicious with John Vernon who was in Ernest Goes to Camp with Iron Eyes Cody was in The Scarlet Letter with Colleen Moore.

Molly was in Sixteen Candles with Edward Andrews who was in Good Neighbor Sam with Neil Hamilton who was in Why Be Good with Colleen.

  2. CELEBRITY NET WORTH SITE – CURRENT NET WORTH QUOTES FOR BRAT PACKERS

    Demi Moore $200 million
    Rob Lowe $100 million
    Andrew McCarthy $12 Million
    Molly Ringwald $11 million
    Judd Nelson $4 million
    Ally Sheedy $4 million
    Anthony Michael Hall $4 million***
    Mare Winningham $1.5 million

*** Sometimes the Christian names are reversed and he is referred to as Michael Anthony.

NOTE: Mare whilst not a “core” Brat Packer is nevertheless classed by Wikipedia and other sources as one of them so I have included her for the comparison and contrast purposes.

The Celeb Net Worth site explains in detail how it arrives at its figures. Obviously if for tax evasion purposes some guy is hiding part of his wealth it would naturally eschew the site’s figures .

“All right Bob. So the IRS won’t let us help any of our pals in our party. But surely there’s a Democrat somewhere who’s paying less tax than he should. Can we not out HIM? That might at least make our friends feel better.” Richard Nixon talking to H R “Bob” Haldeman in an extract from the official published actual Watergate tapes.

  3. Success is always relevant and sometimes as the saying goes “even too much of it is not enough” for some performers. As I understand it the majority of the thespians on the books of Hollywood agents are unemployed or at least not in regular employment.

By that measure Molly is of course a massive success; but when I categorise her as “fairly successful” I mean that such is her niche in comparison with Giants like Julia Roberts and Meyrl Streep – and Cam Diaz!!

If I may again steal from you – this time drawing from the fascinating item 8 of your Possibly Interesting Facts on Melvyn’s Douglas’ page – I would slot Molly, at least for the few years you say she was big, into level 7 of the following pecking order:

“Melvyn Douglas and billing. Joan Crawford once explained to me she was over Clark Gable and William Powell but under Norma Shearer. Powell was under Jean Harlow but above Bob Montgomery and Myrna Loy. Are you still with me?” That by my reckoning converts to the following ranking table

    LEVEL I Norma Shearer
    LEVEL 2 Joan Crawford
    LEVEL 3 Clark Gable
    LEVEL 4 Jean Harlow
    LEVEL 5 William Powell
    LEVEL 6 Robert Montgomery
    Level 7 Myrna Loy

In part 3 is the financial pecking order of the Brat Pack in terms of the net worth quoted by Celeb Net Worth site. Of course these figures don’t tell the whole story as a party animal like Errol Flynn for example would have spent a greater proportion of his earnings than would a couple of tight-wads like Al Leach and Randy Scott and the Part 3 figures tell us just what is left in the bank for the Rat Packers after tax and spend.

  4. EXPLANATORY NOTE: To avoid confusion Molly was not in St Elmos Fire of course but I mentioned it in Part One because like The Breakfast Club featuring Molly St Elmos Fire is a big part of the history of The Brat Pack.

The Work Horse was once a great fan of Judd Nelson and I too liked him – Judd I mean; I’ll go no further than that! – but the most cinematically successful of The Brat Pack was undoubtedly Mrs Bruce Willis aka Demi Moore aka Gimme More so nicknamed because of her alleged greedy demand for high fees; though that may be a bit harsh as I understand she contributes generously to charity.

“It’s not the money you earn it’s what you do with it.”- said Marlon Brando. Take THAT Joel Hirschhorn! Brando went on to say to his taunting interviewer regarding the high fees Marlon was earning post-Godpop “Who would YOU give the money to – some rock star with bubbles coming out of his ears?”

Now Joel I doubt if Marlon knew that in the early days your were a rock singer – so it’s doubtful that he was getting at YOU!” If so? – well as the saying goes “What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander!”

Molly and Ally Sheedy were arguably the least well known, though to me Ally Sheedy was the most-sexy, of the Pack. Nevertheless Molly is still going strong. As the Work Horse faithfully records above she has in 1920/21 been back-to-back, albeit as a supporting player, in The Kissing Booth 2 and The Kissing Booth 3.

She has also been appearing recently in the TV series Riverdale [2017-22] but is well down the cast in that. At post production stage featuring her are a full-length movie [supporting role] and a short one [top-billed lead].

Completed and ready for release is the thriller Pursued and in this one she is the top-billed lead, Her co-stars are Joel Courtney who appeared with her in The Kissing Booth trilogy; and Paul Sorvino to whom we on Cogerson have just paid tribute on his sad passing.

Accordingly Molly’s still very busy – and no doubt enjoying a good life style: Celeb Net Worth site credits her with a current net worth of $11 million.

NOTE According to Celeb Net Worth Demi Moore is undoubtedly the Brat Pack’s top earner with a net worth of $200 million. Her ex Brucie is reported to be worth $250 million – so a wealthy couple! Molly though is having a long career that in my view can be classified as “quite successful”

Anyway I have enjoyed “’revisiting” The Brat Pack so “Voted Up!” Well done Work Horse in giving Molly her place in the sun with a Cogerson page – OUR equivalent of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!

    1. Hey Bob. In the states, for about 3 to 4 years, Molly Ringwald was easily the most famous of the thespians you listed. Her time on the top was pretty short. Since leaving her teens, she has pretty much become a supporting actress…..but she made it to the top of the mountain. I had such a crush on her back then….saw The Breakfast Club many many times and loved Sixteen Candles…seeing both in theaters. Overall I have seen 10 of her movies….including 3 in theaters….as I also saw The Pick-Up Artist in theaters as well.

Moore is worth a lot of money for sure….she like Ringwald made it to the top of the mountain as well. It is always a good day to get a Joel shot in….lol. Did you know he wrote a book called Rating The Movie Stars…I highly recommend it….lol.

That leaves two members of the Breakfast Club that do not have an UMR page…I have all of Anthony Michael Hall’s movies in the database…..while I have not done much research on your favorite Ally Sheedy…..but her time will come soon. Good stuff as always.

  5. WIKIPEDIA “The Brat Pack is a nickname given to a group of young actors who frequently appeared together in teen-oriented coming-of-age films in the 1980s. First mentioned in a 1985 New York magazine article, it is now usually defined as the cast members of two specific films released in 1985—The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire—although other actors are sometimes included.

The “core” members are considered to be Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy”
Possibly a play on Sinatra’s famous -some would say notorious – “Rat Pack”; and not to be confused with “The Movie Brats” who in the early days were George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Brian DePalma, Paul Schrader, and Francis Ford Coppola.

We know of course of the great subsequent fame of Lucas/Coppola etc but whatever became of each of Brat Packers eh Work Horse? Of the movies you list I have seen Molly only ever once – in The Breakfast Club though my daughter is a great fan of St Elmos Fire.

    1. Hey Bob. Thanks for the comment and the feedback. The Brat Pack….ah….the memories. When that title came out I was right in the middle of my Judd Nelson fandom heyday. That might be one of the most famous magazine articles ever made. From what I remember they actually did very little hanging out together. They pretty much just got lumped in together because of The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire. Rob Lowe who has numerous podcasts has pretty much said that was way over exaggerated. Yes, he hung out with lots of people you listed, but it was on one-to-one situations versus all of them hanging out together. The Rat Pack actually did hang out with each other. Not sure about The Movie Brats…certainly not as famous as the Rat Pack. Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BRUCE: Thanks for your detailed responses which clarify further for me the precise interaction among the members of the Brat Pack. Usually you have a depth of knowledge in such cases that I fall short of and unlike Joel I don’t as a rule hold forth on subjects where my knowledge is deficient.

As the saying goes “Better to be quiet on a matter where you might be thought by others to have little knowledge than to speak out and confirm it.”

I do take your point. Bob Hope said that the off-screen relationship between Bing and him was totally exaggerated and they rarely socialised -only once that Bob could immediately recall-Bing being somewhat of a loner.

Burt Lancaster said in an interview that whilst their professional relationship was excellent the private supposed buddy-buddy interaction between him and Kirk was largely a myth orchestrated by Kirk for publicity purposes to boost the box-office of their many movies together.

In a TV interview that I saw, Kirk complained bitterly he never saw Burt in the last 5 years of the latter’s life when Burt was housebound with a severe stroke. Kirk opined that it was Burt’s wife that had come between them and kept Kirk out in the cold.

However cynically I have often wondered if in the light what I have said whether Burt personally was the one who was keeping his old co-star at arm’s length maybe feeling that the pair had seen enough of each other to last a lifetime. “All his life he wanted to be Burt Lancaster!” – Kirk’s biographer.

Certainly the great movie teams and duos are very often not as close as their publicity initially suggests: Abbott and Costello didn’t get on well off-screen and after more than 7 years Dino couldn’t get away from Jerry quickly enough.

Bottom line: not all successful screen partnerships have the wonderful lifelong affinity on and offscreen that was apparently enjoyed by the Great Griffith and Knotts the perennial darlings of the consumers who frequent the great grocery store chains of America.
