Richard Gere Movies

Want to know the best Richard Gere movies?  How about the worst Richard Gere movies?  Curious about Richard Gere box office grosses or which Richard Gere movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Richard Gere movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Richard Gere (1949-) is an American actor who has been appearing in movies for over 40 years.  His IMDb page shows over 60 acting credits since 1973. This page ranks Richard Gere movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television appearances, shorts, documentaries and movies not released in North America were not included in the rankings

Drivel Part: So this page comes from a request from Chris and WoC.  Pretty Woman is easily one of WoC’s (Wife of Cogerson) favorite movies of all-time….and I strongly suspect that Mr. Richard Gere has something to do with that fact!  She has told me that if the Richard Gere of 1989 showed up at our front door….I could be in trouble.  Hopefully if that ever happens….Elisabeth Shue is right behind Gere at the door…lol. Thankfully 1989 was more than a few years ago….as I fell I can defend my turf if the 2017 Gere shows up.

Richard Gere Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.

Richard Gere Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Richard Gere movies by co-stars of his movies
  • Sort Richard Gere movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Richard Gere movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Richard Gere movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Richard Gere movie received.
  • Sort Richard Gere movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

  1. I can easily see your wife’s opinion on a younger Gere. Me and my sister would watch Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride all the time. If only to see him. Love this page.

    1. Hey Helakoski…..good to know you and my wife are on the same page. Glad you like the page so much…..gotta include a current actor ever once in awhile…lol. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Hey Flora…thanks for the comment and the visit…especially on one of our current performers….though Gere did make a couple of movies before 1976. I think you tally of 6 is pretty impressive….especially since you do not watch a ton of current movies.

      Tally count
      Cogerson 31
      Steve Lensman 18
      BryRog57 7
      Laurent 7
      Flora 6

You and WoC are both fans of Pretty Woman….it is a movie that she can watch over and over. 🙂

  2. Surprised it took you this long to do a page on Richard Gere, Bruce, considering he’s a big favorite of WoC. 🙂

I’ve watched 18 of the 46 films listed. Favorites include – The Cotton Club, Chicago, First Knight, Pretty Woman, Internal Affairs and The Jackal.

Movies I’ve missed include – Sommersby (I may have seen it can’t remember), Looking for Mr. Goodbar and Days of Heaven.

I would have thought Pretty Woman was his biggest box office success but An Officer and a Gentleman tops it on the adjusted domestic chart, maybe it was bigger worldwide?

If Gere had said yes to Die Hard where would Bruce Willis be today?

Another great addition to your site. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….well….it was not until a recent conversation with WoC did I realize how much she liked Richard Gere….I knew of her passion for Pretty Woman….just did not understand her connection with Gere….so when I finally saw the light….the UMR Gere page was completed.

Your 18 puts you in 2nd place….behind my total of 31…..and ahead of Laurent and BryRog57’s 7 movies watched. I like the favorites you list….with Internal Affairs being one of my favorites….Sommersby is ok….though filmed where I used to live….I did not like Days of Heaven at all….very slowly paced….it is a good movie to sleep through.

Yep Officer tops Woman…I also found that surprising…..but it was close. I think if Gere had done Die Hard two things would have happened….Bruce Willis would not have become a superstar…and Die Hard would not be ever mentioned…as it would have been quickly forgotten. Thanks for the nice words about the page….it is appreciated.

  3. Hello Bruce,

I like Richard Gere and I’ve seen 13 movies of this list. On of my favorites is No Mercy. In France, his biggest success was, of course, Pretty Woman with more than 4 millions admissions. Follow by Runaway Bride with near 2 millions. American Gigolo and Officer and Gentleman were flops with just 600 000 admissions.
Your facts about Gere are very instructive for me. I knew only the 7.

Thank you for this newest page.

    1. Hey Laurent…thanks for the visit, comment and tally count. So your 7 ties BryRog57 for second but trailing my total of 31. So the Gere/Roberts/Marsall movies were popular in France while some of his other hit movies did poorly in France….that is good information to know. Glad you like our interesting facts….I thought we found some good ones too. WoC has said she will figure out how to get you the rental numbers in that recent email I sent you….and to get it done this weekend.

  4. So first off….you reference Van Johnson in the facts 3 times….and you say Gere WAS an actor, not IS…but that is nitpicking….soooo…onward…

    Seen: 7/46 or 15%
    Favorite Top 10: Runaway Bride
Guilty Pleasure: Close between First Knight and The Jackal, as I have seen First Knight more I will go with that one, but bad guy Bruce getting tracked down by Richard is a close 2.

I am missing some of his major roles and biggest hits/UMR score…will have to get on that…then again I’ve gone this long. Once again, nicely done.

    1. Hey BryRog57…..thanks for those catches…I fixed them as soon as I saw your comment this morning….obviously I copied and pasted the Van Heflin page and did not switch the names in those places.

7 or 15% is a distant total….but far behind my total of 31. Wow Runaway Bride your favorite…that is surprising indeed. You have seen parts of Somersby…which was filmed in FarmVille….one of the girls that appeared in the movie was your babysitter for awhile…we used to watch her scene all the time.

I also would go with First Knight over The Jackal. Hach: A Dog’s Tale is worth checking out….it made no money but it is ranked in IMDb’s Top 250. Good comment…appreciate you taking the time to vidit and comment.

      1. Hey BryRog57…glad you have seen that one….sad but very memorable. I am sure Lady would do the same thing for you…lol.
