      Thanks for these epic lists…goodness the first list is huge. The Player gives her lots of connections on all three lists. After trying to digest that list….it makes me wonder why she is not higher on the list. Surprised there is no Michael Caine connection. I agree it is sad about those legends….like a glorious sand castle trying to hold off high tide…it is just not going to happen. 32 Oscar winning co-stars is impressive. Good stuff as always.

2. I have seen 4 Whoopi Goldberg movies. Although I am a fan of Star Trek TOS and their films, I never got into The Next Generation.

   Ghost and Sister Act are favourites of mine. I have also seen In & Out and Girl, Interrupted.

I only saw 11 but I loved them. finally a credit for The Player that had a major role. my eclectic list of tens and favorites: toy story 3(anime? gasp), the player, soapdish, a girl interrupted. 10 not a fav: color purple. 9s lion king, long walk home. solid 8s: in and out, made in America, ghost, sister act. thank you steve , I will try movies and tv from star trek next generation.

   1. Hey bob cox…thanks for the visit and the tally count…The Player is always making an appearance on UMR….everytime Dan does an epic list it is always on those comments. But…you are right…it does not have many UMR rankings….I imagine a Tim Robbins page will help in that regard. I have seen 27 to your 11. I have not loved all of them. Glad to see Toy Story 3 getting some bob love…even if it is animated. Color of Purple and Girl Interrupted are good movies…just not ones I watch to re-watch at all. Good feedback as always.

   Whoopi has 13 movies that crashed your magical 100 million dollar barrier but in only 3 of them could she be said to have the central role. Though Ghost, Toy Story and Lion King were the biggest earners, possibly when Whoopi’s name is mentioned general audiences will think first of her tour-de-force in the 2 Sister Act movies.

   However The Numbers give the following categorised breakdown of filmography on its Goldberg page:

   18 lead roles
   4 leading ensemble roles
   24 supporting roles
   16 cameo roles and other types of participation such as narration

   Considering the offbeat characters Whoopi has played 18 leading roles is quite commendable. Also as you say she is only the 2nd black woman to win an Oscar and you have demonstrated that she has been successful in multi entertainment and cultural disciplines. Her overall success has earned her a nice little net worth of $45 million

   I therefore welcome this new page for a very talented black lady. Good call Bruce and “Voted Up!”

   1. Hey Bob….good breakdown on her movies. I have been using The Numbers more in the recent months….I saw the same exact breakdown of her career. Actually surprised she is getting credit for 18 leading roles. Seems after her lead role movies of the 1980s stalled out…she quickly became a solid character actor….appearing in lots of movies….but rarely in the lead. Whoopi has done an excellent job saving her money. Thanks for the vote and the visit…you are the man.

5. Whatever happened to Whoopi Goldberg? She was all the rage back in the 90s.

   I’ve seen 12 of the 55 films on the chart, less than I thought. My favorites are – Ghost, The Lion King, Toy Story 3, Star Trek First Contact, Star Trek Nemesis and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was fun too, I have it in 3D. Anybody want to see Ninja Turtles in 3D? [sound of pin dropping]

   I was not a fan of The Color Purple, the first Spielberg film I wasn’t interested in buying for my movie collection. Others have been ignored or sniffed at since.
   But Senor Spielbergo will always have my respect for directing 3 of my all time favorite films – Jaws, Close Encounters and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

   Btw I particularly liked Whoopi as the alien bartender Guinan in hundreds of episodes of Star Trek. Yes I’ll be a Trekkie till the end. [vulcan salute]
