  1. I’ve had my little UMR break now let’s see…. I’ve seen 39 out of the 70 listed on the chart. That’s a lot more than I managed from my top 40 video.

My favorites include – Platoon, Streets of Fire, Mississippi Burning, To Live and Die in LA, Flight of the Intruder, Clear and Present Danger, Daybreakers, The Great Wall, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, John Carter, Shadow of the Vampire, Finding Nemo, Grand Budapest Hotel, John Wick and Spider-Man.

Good stuff. Vote Up! Thanks for the share.

    1. Hey Steve….I noticed you had been away for awhile….I just checked…..we went 263 comments between your last comment and today’s comments….that has to be a record. 39 Willem Dafoe movies is pretty impressive. I have seen all of your favorites….liked all of them with the exception of The Great Wall and John Carter. Of your favorites…I would say To Live and Die in L.A. is my favorite Dafoe movie. Thanks for the feedback.

  2. It’s interesting to see Willem Dafoe has already been in so many movies, and it does not make me feel any younger! I recall seeing him in the cinema in one of his first films, 1985’s To Live and Die in L.A. He instantly made a strong impression on me.

With his distinct cheek bones, square jaw and tough features, Dafoe has always reminded me of James Coburn, so I thought the two were very well suited to play father and son in Affliction, a film where both gave very strong performances (Coburn’s last great moment on the screen).
Like Coburn, Dafoe never quite became a top movie star, but he proved to be a survivor, regularly finding interesting roles and giving memorable characterizations in large variety of films. Of the 20 or so films that I have seen him in, in addition to the two films already mentioned, I particularly liked him in Platoon, Mississippi Burning, The Last Temptation of Christ, and Faraway So Close.

Thanks for the page and great job as always!

    1. Hey PhilHoF17…..thanks for sharing your thoughts on Mr. Willem Dafoe. I know exactly what you mean. I saw To Live and Die in L.A. when I was just starting out in college. So to realize the movie is now 33 years old does not make much sense too me….it seems like some type of error…lol. The double whammy of To Live and Die in L.A. and Streets of Fire got me to notice him….I still remember watching Platoon and slowly realizing he was the good sergeant and not the evil sergeant.

Denis Leary says he gets mistaken for Dafoe on a regular basis. When people ask Leary why he made Operation Dumbo Drop…he says…it was not me…it was Dafoe. They both have those distinct cheek bones. I love James Coburn….but Affliction was a one and done movie for me…though the performances are outstanding…one day I will have a Nolte UMR page.

20 Dafoe movies is pretty good….but far behind my total of almost 50….I have seen all of your favorites with the exception of Faraway So Close….I will have to check that one out. Good feedback as always.

  3. Quality actor. Is getting better with age. Favorites include The English Patient, John Wick, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Platoon. Just saw him in The Great Wall. He was wasted in that movie.

    1. Hey Steve. I agree he is getting better as time passes. I really liked Platoon and John Wick. I thought The English Patient was ok. Totally agree with you about The Great Wall….his part was so meaningless…why even bother putting so one like Dafoe in the role. Good stuff.
