  1. HI BRUCE:Thanks for the feedback. Glad you like Once Around. I think it may well be my most loved of my 4 fave Holly moves.

I will always remember the one-liner from Danny Aiello where he moans to a friend about Dreyfuss, who has been showing up at Danny’s home and freeloading off Aiello for years: “He always seems to be arriving: he never seems to leave!” Hollywood script-writing at its very best.

It must have stuck in the Danny character’s craw though when after carrying Dreyfus financially for years he ending up having to carry him physically around as well. The nearest real-life hypothetical analogy that I can think of is either The Duke or The Great Mumbler [or worse still-me] finding himself in a situation where he had to carry Joel about!-

“Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: he hath borne me on his back a thousand times.” [Hamlet Act V Scene One].

  2. The only Oscar winner I have ever spoken to. Holly called our office back in the old days looking for the blueprints of her apartment or one she was buying, but she had dialed the wrong office. Holly is #561 on the current Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. She was never on till they switched to the Wikipedia database. These are the actors on the list she has appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Thanks as always.
      2. That is awesome that you talked with her…even if it was on accident.
      3. I have talked to two Oscar winners….Ernest Borgnine (at Fort Sumter) and Kim Basinger (in Wilmington NC).
      4. Her Oracle ranking is higher than I would have guessed….since she has not really made too many movies….granted her television career is equally impressive.
      5. Looks like there is a massive tie with many Oracle people working with her two times.
      6. 20 Oracle Oscar winning co-stars is low in total…but impressive in %.
      Good information as always.

  3. I saw 13, including 8 of top 10. 10s and favorites : always, broadcast news. 9: Incredibles 2. hidden gems: miss firecracker, oh brother where art thou both 8s.i loved her in saving grace on television. thanks for another Oscar winner though the piano completely missed me I guess I can give it another try.

    1. Hey bob cox….good to hear from you. Tally count. Me 20, you 13 and Flora 3. 80% of the Top 10 is pretty good. I am right there with you on Broadcast News….a fun movie…though the subject has not aged well….heck…I do not even know who the main nightly anchors are anymore. I have not seen Miss Firecracker…but I want to. As for The Piano…a good movie…well done…but not one I ever want to watch again. Good stuff as always.

  4. I have seen 3 Holly Hunter movies. None of them are favourites. In order of preference they are:

    O Brother Where Art Thou
    Raising Arizona
Always – see original called A Guy Named Joe starring Spencer Tracy, Irene Dunne and Van Johnson

    1. Hey Flora. Thanks for the thoughts on Holly Hunter. My tally is 20. I have seen all three of the ones you have seen. I would recommend Broadcast News….I think it is a movie you would enjoy…and it has three great performances (all Oscar nominated)…Hunter, William Hurt and Albert Brooks. I have seen Always many times…yet I have never tracked down A Guy Named Joe. Good stuff as always.

  5. 1/Holly has a reported actual net worth of $14 million and IMDB credits her with 45 acting awards and 91 nominations.

2/My own favorite Holly Hunter films are: The Firm, Copycat, The Piano, Once Around and Home for the Holidays.

3/In tandem with her big screen career Holly has been in (1) 15 TV productions between 1983 and now (2) 4 video games between 2004 and 2015.

4/The tables above suggest that apart from her voice role in the Expendables films and her supporting performance in Batman v Superman Holly’s other 12 movies in the 19 years since the start of the present century have overall attracted mediocre box office returns: those 12 movies have a total adjusted US gross of under $180 million, a derisory average of $15 million per movie.

5/However in my opinion the feisty diminutive Holly [at 5’ 2” she would in her younger years have been an ideal 1950s Ladd leading lady] deserves this new page on the strength of her undoubted considerable acting talent.

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for the feedback on Holly Hunter. Off your favorites I liked The Firm and Once Around the best. For some reason Once Around pops into my head pretty often. I think it is because I like the scene where Danny Aiello finally does the “once around”. Good point about her being an ideal Ladd leading lady. I would say if you have not seen it…check out A Life Less Ordinary…you get Hunter and Cameron Diaz. Good stuff.
