Professor Vandross of Clemson University’s MCU Rankings:

1st Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
2nd Doctor Strange (2016)
3rd Black Panther (2018)
4th Iron Man (2008)
5th Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
6th Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
7th Iron Man 2 (2010)
8th The Avengers (2012)
9th Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
10th Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
11th Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
12th Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
13th Captain America: Civil War (2016)
14th Thor (2011)
15th Ant-Man (2015)
16th Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
17th Ant-Man and Wasp (2018)
18th Thor: The Dark World (2013)
19th Iron Man 3 (2013)

20th The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Professor Vandross’ Thoughts:  I believe almost all of the MCU movies are quality , fun movies.  The only comic book superhero they have not done justice too is the Hulk.   They have done better in the Mark Ruffalo movies, but the stand alone Hulk movies have been bad! This is why it sits at the bottom of my rankings.  Although most of my Top 5 is interchangeable.  I do feel Thor:Ragnarok is the best.  The movie has a lot of action and it stays true to a lot of the comic book source material.  It introduces new characters, provides good background information on our heroes and is a truly enjoyable movie for both the comic book fans and movie fans.

Cogerson of UltimateMovieRankings (UMR) MCU Rankings:

1st Captain America: Civil War (2016)
2nd Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
3rd Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
4th Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
5th The Avengers (2012)
6th Ant-Man (2015)
7th Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
8th Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
9th Iron Man (2008)
10th Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
11th Ant-Man and Wasp (2018)
12th Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
13th Doctor Strange (2016)
14th Black Panther (2018)
15th Iron Man 3 (2013)
16th Thor (2011)
17th Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
18th Iron Man 2 (2010)
19th The Incredible Hulk (2008)

20th Thor: The Dark World (2013)

Cogerson’s Thoughts:  Thor:The Dark World is my least favorite UMR movie.  The movie is so forgettable, it always takes some research to remember what the movie was about.  I know I am alone, but I did not really love any of the stand alone Iron Man movies.  I do like Downey, Jr. as Iron Man but have enjoyed his “supporting/ensemble MCU roles” more than his “starring MCU roles”.    Paul Rudd as Ant-Man is something I have really enjoyed.  I am sure many would say I have the Ant-Man movies ranked too high.  As for Black Panther….I wanted to love it, but have to admit I was not that impressed.

I re-watch my Top 3 regularly.  Guardians of the Galaxy is a fun ride…..it achieves greatness with little effort…while the sequel tries really hard, but fails to recapture that greatness.   I suspect Infinity War might drop in the rankings as the story wraps up in the next few MCU movies….but right now, it is almost at the top of the rankings. So that leaves Captain America:  Civil War.   The airport fight scene alone might make it my number one MCU movie.  Great action, lots of humor and great character story lines make this my favorite MCU movie.

  1. I like how this page is set up. As for the rankings I feel the critic audience is the one that best reflects my thoughts. When looking at the two experts, gotta side with the Professor over the Cogerson. Though I do think Van Dross has all the Avenger movies too low. Nice way to wake up in the morning, a page on my favorite movie genre.

  2. Hi Bruce, I’ve seen them all! No surprises there. How many has Bob seen I wonder? 😉

I might go and see Venom but the reviews have not been great, I like Tom Hardy.

Venom is a Marvel movie but not part of the ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ which confuses people, X-Men and the Spider-Man movies aren’t up there either and they are very much Marvel.

My favorite? I like them all.

Looking at the box office chart – The top 3 are all Avengers movies with Black Panther at no.4. But I was surprised to see Avengers Infinity War couldn’t beat Black Panther on the US domestic chart for this year, oooh!

    Good stuff. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Curley….your comment has me thinking I need to re-watch Thor 3. I got it for a present….and have not re-watched it yet….but I really enjoyed it in the theaters. Ragnarok did very very well in our rankings….including getting a Top Spot in one of the sections. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Love the MCU world. Find this very interesting. I have a top ten too. My ten are the best characters in the MCU world. At the top of that list is Thor, T’Challa, Groot, Tony Stark and M’Baku. Of course I liked the rankings that listed their movies highest.

    1. Hey Gordon…..thanks for checking out our MCU page. I like the idea of a Top 10 MCU character list…..my favorites would include Ant-Man, Starlord, Groot, Hawkeye (he gets no respect) and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Glad some of your favorites did well in our rankings. Thanks for the feedback.

  4. Après j’ai rien contre la MCU en tant que tel c’est juste que souvent les films sont fades, sur une vingtaine environ j’en retiens 5 grand max

    1. Hey Frances….glad you stopped by and commented….tried to translate this ….but not 100% sure I got it right…..but I am pretty sure I agree with you. Good stuff.
