  1. Why does she have a hyphenated name?

I saw the Phantom with her for the 2nd time in Mexico City (I had nothing to do at night and I didn’t speak Spanish beyond a few things I remembered from high school). They showed the film in English with Spanish subtitles. Also went to the Rock and Now and Then there.

I have some TV movie she made “Cocaine Godmother” sitting around for a couple of years but have had no inclination to watch.

    1. I saw No Reservations in Alexandria, Virginia when the hotel we were staying at there closed the pool due to construction.

      1. Hey Dan….well….I know Alexandria pretty well…..from working in that area a few times and visiting that area as a tourist. No Reservations is one of the 5 Zeta-Jones movies that I have seen in theaters.

    2. Hey Dan…..Cocaine Godmother is actually not too bad. Especially for a Lifetime movie. You have traveled to many places and seen movies in many different cultures….I have Montreal and the United States….heck…I have only seen a few movies outside of Virginia. Though I have a vivid memory of seeing A Bridge Too Far in Oregon. I think the “Zeta-” was purely for cosmetic reasons….Jones is such a common name…but Zeta-Jones is different.

A huge tie for most Oracle co-stars….but some major stars…like Clooney, Pitt and Willis….though now that I think about it….Willis and Zeta-Jones did three movies….you are missing Lay The Favorite…which was not too bad of a movie. Looking at the second list…19 is not too impressive…though I suspect she is going to have a second career in supporting roles. As always…good stuff.

      1. Add Bruce and Corbin Bernsen for these connections.

51 BRUCE WILLIS LAY THE FAVORITE (2012)
847 CORBIN BERNSEN LAY THE FAVORITE (2012)

  2. i saw 13 including top 8. 10 and favorite chicago(in my top 10 all-time musicals) .10 not favorite, traffic. 9 and favorite, oceans 12. 9 not favorite, america’s sweethearts (a hidden gem), the terminal(a happier ending could have made this a 10) . other hidden gems : high fidelity 8, entrapment 8, intolerable cruelty 7

good to see christopher columbus in last place brando, tom selleck, czj and a disaster of a movie, it hurts. lay the favorite really bad and i love bruce willis. czj should have followed WoC rule of 39 , she did not age well, almost ruined RED2. last good effort no reservations at 38 y. o.

    1. Hey bob cox…thanks for the feedback on Catharine Zeta-Jones…another off the Best Supporting Actress winners list. I have seen 22 of her 26 movies. So our tally counts are 22 for me and 13 for you. I liked Ocean’s 12….not many others besides us did. I agree with you on High Fidelty as a hidden gem, the other Bob agrees with you on Entrapment. Maybe the curse of 39 is what is slowing down her career. I do think she is aging nicely. RED2 was alright…Malkovich and Willis made a good screen team. Good stuff as always.

  3. Catherine first came to general attention over here in the hit British TV series The Darling Buds of May [1991-1993] in which she appeared in 18 of its 20 episodes; and in the middle of which she made her film debut in 1992’s Christopher Columbus: The Discovery in which Brando had one of his highly paid cameos that so incurred Joel’s wrath.

I have said before that it is one of the few Brando films that I refuse to watch and indeed in her 4.48pm post on 6 May on her welcome new page W o C complimented me for refusing to watch a Brando film that I didn’t like; though I have since wondered if that remark wasn’t sarcasm from her husband using his wife as a shield/medium!!

There is nothing listed for Catherine in the pipeline at present but she has been appearing in the US comedy series “Queen America” – and there was me saying in Part 1 that Thins was no longer around!! The series has so far run for 10 episodes from Nov 2018-Jan 2019 and I can find no word on whether there will be subsequent episodes. “The series has been met with a mixed to positive critical response upon its premiere. On the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 67% with an average rating of 4 out of 10, based on 12 reviews.” – Wikipedia

Anyway it’s good to see a Welsh Brit actress – and a sexy one at that – get her own page for a change as opposed to someone from Steve’s posh English clique or some muscle bound Yank like the guy who ran up and down the Rocky Steps – so definitely “Voted Up!” Good choice Work Horse – a gal who debuts in a Mumbles movie definitely deserves her own page

[PS Despite my dislike of the Brando movie I had to get aplug in for him as I see that “Baldie” is getting more Cogerson love in one of the stills above!!!]

    1. Hey Bob….I thought you would like the fact that she was one of Brando’s co-stars….the beginning of her career and near the end of his career. One day, you will cave and watch that movie. Thanks for the information on her current roles..I imagine she can be very picky about her roles. As for the photos…I did try and find one of her and Brando in their Chris Columbus movie…but failed….so Bruce stepped in for Marlon….lol. Good stuff.

  4. I have long confused in my mind Catherine with Angelina Jolie: Both have similar physiques standing at approx 5ft 7inches; the pair are good as “sultry beauties”; both got much publicity from being married to famous mega stars [Douglas and Pitt respectively]; and both have played action heroines – Catherine in Entrapment with Sir Sean and Angelina in the Lara Croft franchise. In an interview that I saw about a year ago the late Kirk said that he was delighted to have Catherine as a daughter in law.

Coincidentally both Catherine and Angelina have the same reported approx net worth: $105 million and $100 million respectively. Michael Douglas is reckoned to have $300 million with Kirk being the poor relation of the Douglas clan with “Just” $60 million at the time of his recent sad death.

I was a bit surprised that Jolie was not being quoted for much more because according to Wiki she has been named multiple times as Hollywood’s highest paid actress [though it must be remembered that The Thin Woman is no longer around].

IMDB credits Catherine with 19 acting awards and 35 noms. I have enjoyed her performances in Sinbad: Mask of Zorro; The Haunting; Intolerable Cruelty; and especially Entrapment – an “action movie with brains” in my opinion if I can pinch one of Variety’s phrases. Bruce’s sources give the movie just a 53% rating but the box office figures show the public to be on my side – adjusted worldwide gross of around $385 million according to WH.

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for the feedback. Interesting about you getting Jolie and Zeta-Jones mixed up. I have not had that issue….but after reading your comment…I can see why you would get that way. That is a pretty stout net worth for Catherine. I guess those T-Mobile ads have paid off nicely. Thanks for sharing the information on her awards. Glad you liked Entrapment…critics were pretty harsh on that movie…while audiences gave it pretty average marks…but like you, I enjoyed that Connery movie. Can you beleive it has almost been 20 years since the last Connery movie? Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BRUCE: Movies usually remain fresh in my mind so that I keep forgetting how old some of the ones that I’ve seen are.

Looking at your charts I see that Entrapment was released 21 years ago and there has been a lot of water under the bridge since then for most if not all people still around. For example in relation to things that interest or personally affect me (1) Brando has left us (2) Roger has stacked up 20 grand slams; become a Legend; and accumulated $450 million (3)and on the more serious side I have lost both parents and a younger brother whom I used to curl up in bed with and look after generally when we were kids. “The Spoils of Time”

Reviews of Brando’s Columbus were dire and for once Joel would have been virtually right if he had suggested NOBODY else was interested in it either [as per your box office figures]. I very much like Tom Selleck but one of the reviews that put me off about watching Columbus was “Every time Tom Selleck speaks his hairpiece keeps moving up and down”.

Thanks for trying to get a Brando photo to include but he’s probably not in the Columbus movie much more than Willis was in Split. As you know I quite like Bruce so I am happy that you got him to stand in for Brando; though Tennessee and I would never forgive you if you arranged Sly as a Marlon stand-in !!

Anyway thanks again for the Ladd upgrade and for your feedback here; I hope that you and your family are keeping safe; and tell that woman in the corner that her newly-acquired fan base is waiting for her next classic review. Heck even Fu made sure that the world heard from him again!

  5. Hi Mr. Cogerson,
    Again a great UMR page.
She is one of the most beautiful faces to be on the movie screen.

    Thx

    Mike
