Ray Liotta Movies

Want to know the best Ray Liotta movies?  How about the worst Ray Liotta movies?  Curious about Ray Liotta box office grosses or which Ray Liotta movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Ray Liotta movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well, you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Ray Liotta (1954-2022) was an American actor, voice actor, and film producer.   Liotta appeared in movies for over 40 years.  Liotta was best known for his role as Henry Hull in 1990’s Goodfellas.  His IMDb page shows over 141 acting credits from 1981 to 2022.  This page will rank Ray Liotta movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, videos, games, and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings.  To do well in our overall rankings a movie has to do well at the box office, get good reviews by critics, be liked by audiences, and get some award recognition.  This is a request (ok multiple requests) from Mike (known mainly as Anonymous).

  • Sort Ray Liotta movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Ray Liotta movies by yearly domestic box office rank

  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Ray Liotta movie received.
  • Sort Ray Liotta movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

  1. Ray Liotta has died at the age of 67. I saw him in Goodfellas and Identity. Rest in peace

    1. I forgot Field of Dreams. How could I forget I saw that film? I knew the author who wrote the book upon which it was based – W.P. Kinsella

    2. Hey Flora….I realized when I got home that I had not added his most recent movies to the page….I know I am a slacker…his movie tally is now at 73. That is cool that you got to meet W. P.. Kinsella. I have been hearing a lot about Field of Dreams today. Apparently Ray never even saw that movie. Gotta say I am surprised that you have seen Good Fellas. As for Identity that is a very underrated movie that I love. Good feedback as always. Rest in Peace Ray Liotta.

  2. Love Goodfellas, loved him in it, one of my all-time favorite movies. Nothing even comes close to that one but I still like him as an actor.

    1. Hey Taylor….I am right there with you on Goodfellas. A classic movie, that will suck you in, no matter what you are doing. I would recommend Something Wild if you have not seen it. That was the movie that I first noticed him. A quirky but fun movie. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. HI BOB COX

Very good and observant post. You obviously THINK about what’s beig served up to you on screen and apply your own standards. No outsider such as Joel Hirschhorn is going to tell YOU what to think and watch. All power to you.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for these awesome lists on Ray Liotta. He is about where I would have guessed when thinking about the Oracle list. Looks like Forest Whitaker is his most frequent Oracle co-star. I just saw Forest in a NetFlix movie called How It Ends……it was not very good….and had a horrible ending. Anyway…..I did add it to the database. Looking at the Oscar winning co-stars..28 is less than I would have guessed….and I see it is updated…as his co-star in Marriage Story is listed amongst the winners. And finally….everybody’s favorite subject….The Muppets. I also thought it was strange he was in not only 1 Muppet movie but 2 Muppet movies. Good stuff as always.

  5. I saw 10 including 8 of top 11. 10 and favorite field of dreams. I do not understand why Costner is consistently under appreciated. 9 not favorite Goodfellas. only 8 of 68 cross the 100 mil a.b.o. Only Hannibal (7) and wild hogs (5) cross the 200mil a.b.o. both of which I did not like. how can a movie have 222.8 million adj box office and a 35%review? I give you wild hogs , not worth watching.
to THE Bob, no need to finish goodfellas. though I admire the movie making art and acting it is a horrific story. goodfellas and scarface and white heat(cagney) are the 3 most realistic gangster movies with their drug addled mentally ill gangsters losing control. the godfathers are the least realistic(the murderous psychopaths are controlled and calculating, just killing for business reasons) making them the most enjoyable and greatest of all fictional gangster movies. despite Mario puzzo’s alleged “connected” viewpoint.

    1. Hey bob cox. Thanks for the thoughts on Ray Liotta. I see you and the other Bob are agreeing on Goodfellas. Well…we are on different sides with regards to that movie. Good points about Wild Hogs….that one made my Bad Blockbuster page….never understood how it made so much money. Though it has some fans…..around here that would be Steve. As for Costner…he had a great run….but he is like many action stars….they slow up….at this point he is closer to 70 than 60. As always good stuff.

      1. HI BRUCE: My brother can never understand why someone else doesn’t like something that HE admires; and similaliry you seem surprised that Bob Cox and I don’t like Goodfellows. Surely there has never beena movie that EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE adored?

I have watched many violent gangster movies and I can not recall one that upset me other than – for some reason – Goodfellows [I have always refused to bow to its ‘lowest common denominator’ language by referring to it as Goodfellas].

I have attempted to watch it on a couple of occasions but had to give up and maybe what finally put the boot in for me was Pesci who for me has one of the most depressing personalities on screen.

There are many fine actors who have weak screen personalities [Britian’s Mervyn Johns is one prime example] and we have to remember that in the final reckoning audiences go to cinemas to be entertained; so that the reason for Gable and Wayne being massively polular and the likes of Pesci not being Legends is simple: massive screen presnece v overdrive personality problems.

For me Pesci has ruined every DeNiro/Scorsese film that he has appeared in and his giving the impression that he was born with an addiction to the F word doesn’t lelp the monotony of his performances – see Part 2.

For my money Scorsese’s best masterpiece has long been The Age of Inncoence in which he studies the culture of high society and tells us a bitter-sweet tale of unrequited and ultimately lost all of which Martin is help convey by Day-Lewis’ beautiful intellectual performance.

        1. BOB COX See also my Part 1 today. Sorry I left you off the salutation accompanying the earlier post.

1/Vito Corleone: “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.”

2/”Terry Malloy: You don’t understand! I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I could’ve been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am. It was all your doing Charlie. You were my brother. You shoulda looked after me. It was YOU Charlie ”

The taxi scene in On the Waterfront has been designated one of the most important since the 2nd World War; and Terry’s lines have been listed 3rd and Don Corleone’s one listed 2nd in AFI’s 100 Greatest Movie quotes after the No 1 “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a d**n.” from GWTW.

Now imagine DeNiro and Pesci in the Brando and Steiger roles in those films and the dialogue going something as follows:

          1/”I’m gonna ******* well make the c*** an offer that the a** **** can’t ******* refuse”.

2/You don’t understand. I coulda had ******* class. I coulda been a contender. I could have been ******* somebody instead of an a** **** which is what I am. It was all your ******* doing Joe. You were my brother. You should have looked after me better – so **** you Joe!”

3/Or think of DeNiro or Pesci replacing Clark as Rhett and saying “**** you Scarlett you w****. Frankly you b***h I dont give a s***!”

If I had filled in the blanks above you would have – quite rightly – had to delete the quotes; and the fact that you would see the need to do so illustrates that you accept that many people would find them offensive and understanably and commendably you don’t wish to give offence. It is therefore surprising to me that you give the impression of thinking The Two Bobs are missing out on something because they cannot be entertained by a flood of gratuitous bad language on the screen of which Pesci in particular is a prime practitioner.

“It has all gone too far today. I am aware that real people in everday life for example vomit all the time. However I go to the movies for escapism and entertainment and I don’t want to see people vomiting all over the place on screen.” – Debbie Reynolds
