  1. Interesting, I didn’t realize Hans Zimmer was such a prolific musical score composer. 190 musical scores since 1984 and 9 Academy Award nominations for best score (from what I could count) is quite a feat. Although I’m familiar with many of these films, it’s hard to say which scores I prefer as in most cases, I’ve only seen the film once, and I find music is something that grows on you after at least a couple of listening.

My favorite musical score composer is Ennio Morricone, followed by Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry, Maurice Jarre, Vladirmir Cosma (mostly French films), Bernard Herrmann and Dimitri Tiomkin.

    1. Hey PhilHOF17…..Zimmer has been a machine….he has actually caught John Williams in movies…..but is far behind in Oscar nominations. There are actually 11 music nominations for Zimmer.

Good list of composers….I think Ennio Morricone is my favorite….love his spaghetti western music….classic stuff.

I agree it takes awhile for me to appreciate a soundtrack. FYI….John Williams career adjusted box office $24.51 billion….compared to Hans’ $17.89 billion…..that is some serious money. Good stuff.

  2. Like Steve, I am happy to see a composer featured.
I am not too familiar with Hans Zimmer films. I have seen 7 of his movies. They are:

    Driving Miss Daisy
    Rain Man
    As Good AS It Gets
    A League Of Their Own
    Thelma and Louise
    Days of Thunder
    Bird on a Wire

    1. Hey Flora….thanks for checking out this modern composer…..he has had a great run of box office success…..Katie (DoC#3) loved the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack….and got really good playing the violin parts of that score. 7 is decent…especially since none of this movies is even close to your 1976 cutoff. I have seen all 7 of the ones you have seen….liked them all…with the exception of Bird on a Wire. Good stuff.

  3. Think of all the great composers you can do, The Newman Family (Emil,David, Lionel,Thomas), Danny Elfman , Max Steiner, all the Oingo Boingo guys (Mark Mothersbaugh and 2 others whose names escape me now), Trevor Rabin etc.

    1. Hey Dan…..I agree there are lots of great composers that would make great UMR pages….first Williams….now Zimmer…who will be next? Probably a classic composer since the first two are modern ones. Thanks for the suggestions.

  4. Good to have a film composer page for a change. I’ve been collecting movie soundtracks since the 1970s and I have hundreds on LP, CD and other formats.

Hans Zimmer is an excellent composer when he wants to be but his recent scores tend to be a cacophonous headache inducing ‘wall of sound’ i.e. The Dark Knight Rises, Dunkirk.

I’ve seen 76 of the 113 films listed. Favorite scores include – Gladiator, Crimson Tide, The Da Vinci Code, Pirates of the Caribbean, Rango, The Lion King, Inception and Interstellar.

The Lion King’s adjusted box office wordwide – $1.8bn – whoa! Is this the biggest animated movie of them all?

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

FWIW my favorite film composers are – Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Miklos Rozsa, John Barry and John Williams

    1. Hey Steve….yep this is the second composer……I actually did most of the research right after our John Williams page…just never got around to finishing it and promoting it.

Your 76 is an awesome total…..but it trails me by 8….as I have seen 84 of these movies….and I just borrowed Taffin from my mom’s house….so 85 is coming soon.

Dunkirk got him an Oscar nomination….but last year I liked the music in BladeRunner2049 more.

The Lion King was amazing at the box office….those numbers do include it’s decent 3D run a few years.

A Bernard Herrman page might be fun. Good feedback as always.

  5. Ok….this is our last hidden page….still having issues with creating new pages and new posts. So enjoy this one….as it might be the last new material for a few days.
