To make this list a movie had to be made in 1992. Obviously many movies made in 1991 earned box office dollars in 1992. On the other side many movies made in 1992 made money in 1993 and later. This page will looks at over 200 movies made in 1992. The movies are listed in two massive tables that lets you rank the movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information.
1992 Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.
1992 Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table
The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.
- Sort 1992 Movies by movie titles and movie trailers
- Sort 1992 Movies by the stars or in some cases the director of the movie.
- Sort 1992 Movies by domestic adjusted box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
- Sort 1992 Movies how they were received by critics and audiences. 60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
- Sort by how many Oscar® nominations each 1992 Movies received and how many Oscar® wins each 1992 Movies received.
- Sort 1992 Movies by Ultimate Movie Ranking Score (UMR). Our UMR score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!
Hey Steve….thanks for the tally, the visit, the vote up and the comment…all are greatly appreciated. Seems like you were not watching as many movies in the early 1990s. Thinking work got in the way, you were head over heels in love or movies bored you back then. How are my guesses? I know in 1992…I was working a lot of hours…lived miles from my kids…so off days I was driving to and from them….and that did not leave a lot of time for movies.
Of your favorites…seen all of them with the exception of Police Story 3…..even saw Full Contact and Hard Boiled. Reservoir Dogs, Unforgiven, Under Siege and Aladdin would be my favorites as well. Howard’s End is good…but not great. I think I have heard Aladdin in the background close to 500 times…have kids aged 31 to 10 means I have been putting that VHS orDVD, or loading up the stream feed to Aladdin for the last 27 years of my life. None of my kids are excited about the new version coming to theaters. But….those grandkids of mine…lol.
The following films by your list I saw in cinemas.

Hey Dan….proving once again, that you are a movie watching machine. Ever time I think I am impressive when talking about movies watched….your lists come out and quickly put me in my place….lol. I bow to your quantity seen and your more impressive record keeping skills.
SACRILEGE! Tom Hanks not getting credit for A League of Their Own on a COGERSON site [And WHO is Gary Marshall?] I have seen 18 of the top 30 highest US grossers in the tables. My own Top 15 favourites overall are-
Few Good Men
The Bodyguard
Basic Instinct
A League of Their Own
Hand that Rocks the Cradle
Dracula
Scent of a Woman
Alien 3
Single White Female
Passenger 57
Final Analysis
Split Second
The Cutting Edge
Jennifer 8
Traces of Red.
Although not in the bombshell bracket of the Hanks exclusion the low ratings of mega hits Lethal Weapon 3, Basic Instinct and The Bodyguard slightly surprised me.
Also because the Top earners table is also based on US box office an anomaly is that Basic Instinct with a whopping $762 million worldwide doesn’t allow Mike Douglas to be a Top earner.
That seems a shame especially when Mike’s Shining Through US gross is added to his Basic Instinct domestic one the overall total comes to $301.3 which is virtually a dead heat with Maggie Smith’s $301.7 and certainly Dame Maggie was not even close to being in the earner league of Douglas the Younger. Nevertheless “Voted Up!” as another comprehensive rundown of the movie marketplace.
Hey Bob…I have fixed that Tom Hanks oversight. Garry Marshall was a very famous television producer (Mork and Mindy, Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Laverne & Shirley) who directed about 20 movies (Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, Nothing In Common and lots of “Day” movies).
I agree it is a shame that Michael Douglas failed to make the Top Grossers list….I should probably take some of the supporting Batman characters off the list.
I have seen all of your favorites with the exception of Traces of Red. I enjoyed Basic Instinct, A League of Their Own and The Bodyguard…though The Bodyguard has not aged well. Good feedback.
Hi bruce
Thanks for acquainting me with Garry marshall
Hey Bob….here to help….I know these younger filmmakers might have escaped your radar…lol.
I have seen 14 movies from 1992. Six of them are from the top 10.
The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Unforgiven.
The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is The Crying Game. I remember the title song.
The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Chaplin. I enjoyed this film far more than the 101st ranking it receives say I should.

Hey Flora. Thanks for checking out our 1992 yearly review. I have seen 133 of these movies, including 80 of the Top 100. I was feeling all proud of myself until seeing Dan has seen every movie ever made in 1992…lol. Good to see that 6 of the movies you have seen are in the Top 10 UMR….proving that my ranking system works at least a little bit.
When looking at your favorites….the one I have missed is Michael Caine’s A Christmas Carol…..never got around to watching one of my all-time favorites acting with Muppets. Love Unforgiven, Aladdin and A League of Their Own. Unforgiven’s line “I guess he had it coming”- the Kid…”We all got it coming, kid.” – Clint is one of my all-time favorite movie lines. Good feedback as always.
One of my favorite movie years.
Hey Taylor….a good movie year for sure….though I think (mainly because I just wrote the page) 1993 is an even better year. Thanks for the comment.
