2. Screenwriter and actor Buck Henry has died at age 89. He won an Academy Award for adapted Screenplay for The Graduate in which he also appeared as an actor. RIP

   1. Rest in peace. Thanks for being the alert to this sad news. Working with WoC and trying to come up with a page that will allow people to add directly to a memorial page. Buck Henry brought lots of laughter to the big screen…he will be missed. Rest in peace.

   TRIVIA INFORMATION I remember Elizabeth clearly from her 1950s/1960s films: a lovely Scottish actress who never achieved top stardom, she was normally in secondary big screen roles. Her final cinematic movie was 1973’s The Hireling starring Robert [Jaws] Shaw and Sara Miles with Elizabeth as Sara’s mother. After that Sellars confined herself to TV productions, her final one being a 1990 episode in the TV series Made In Heaven. However the production that I have most seen talked about is the TV movie A Voyage round my Father starring Olivier and Alan Bates with Elizabeth again in a mother role. Elizabeth leaves behind a net worth of $1.3 million according to Celebrity net Worth site. As well as Bogie’s The Barefoot Contessa which Flora mentions I saw Elizabeth in the following ones:

   1953 The Long Memory – with Sir John Mills

   1953 Three’s Company – with Douglas Fairbanks Jr. This film brought together on the big screen as a supporting feature 3 episodes from a TV series. Elizabeth was in the episode called The Surgeon.

   1954 Desiree with Brando as Napoleon and Jean Simmons as Desiree. Elizabeth played Julie, Desiree’s sister.

   1957 Man in the Sky – with Jack Hawkins

   1957 The Shiralee – with Peter Finch

   1960 Never Let Go – with Richard Todd and Peter Sellers [no relation to Elizabeth of course!] The film was held up for some time as Todd And Peter Seller could not agree on billing and it took a while for Todd, who actually had the lead role, to secure victory. Elizabeth was Todd’s wife in the movie.

   1963 55 Days at Peking – with Chuck Heston, Ava Gardner and David Niven. The Work Horse credits this movie with an adjusted domestic gross of about $150 million. T hat’s respectable but less than half of a film’s gross usually goes back to the studio in rentals and because 55 Days cost $140 million to make Wikipedia says that it was a financial disaster for the studio- sadly a Heston epic that flopped.

   1. Hey Bob…great information on Elizabeth Sellers. I knew none of this information. I have not seen any of the movies you brokedown….not even Brando’s Desiree or Heston’s 55 Days At Peking. Good stuff as always.

         When Desiree was released in Nov 1954 On the Waterfront was still going the rounds since June that year [strangely its premier was in Japan and not the US] and the air was thick with potential Oscar Love; so in any movie in which Brando appeared at that time every mother and her son [except perhaps Mrs Hirschhorn and certainly her son] had eyes for only Marlon.

         Accordingly few will have noticed in Desiree poor little lovely Elizabeth from Scotland; but as I have indicated I will always remember her. Her best role was in Never Let Go. When Todd triumphs over the evil Peter Sellers the movie end with Adam faith singing When Joihnny Comes marching home

               “When this film appeared in 1960, Peter Sellers had become an internationally-acclaimed star of comedies, but had never been seen in a serious drama like this violent thriller. People were so unused to see him playing someone unpleasant and aggressive that the film was a great critical and financial flop. Sellers himself, perhaps defensively, dismissed his performance sarcastically as “my attempt to be Rod Steiger”. However, over the years, the film gained a small, but vociferous cult following and Sellers’s work in it has been much praised.”
